View Full Version : Looking for a Source of Small Pistol Primers?

I think most people that reload are in the same boat as me, I am running short of small pistol primers and just cannot find a legitimate and/or reasonable source for them. Brownells, MidwayUSA, and all the rest of the normal sources are out and do not know when, or if they will ever get a shipment of reloading supplies. There are plenty of scammers out there that will "sell" you primers, but then never ship the items after payment is processed. It has not happened to me because I already was made aware of many of the scams, if the price sounds too good to be true, then it most likely is.
Someone out here in the group must know of someplace that has primers in stock at a reasonable price? Let's share the info please.
Rumor has it you can buy them locally at several big box stores.
Pretty sure you?re going to have to pay more than you used to regardless of where you get them.

I have been looking everywhere in the Springs, they are just sold out, and have been for months. Maybe I will take a drive up to the metro area and check around?

I heard an employee at Scheel's in Johnstown say the truck arrives Wed usually and the primers are gone that evening. Talk to employees at the big stores and see when the trucks come in. I was able to get a brick from sportsmans in Parker about a month ago, Federal Small Pistol Magnum Match at $50.

Thanks. We have a new Scheels here in the Springs, I'll stop by tomorrow and talk to the folks. I'll update the forum with what I find out.
Get your primers before you tell the internet.

Ouch. Last time I was buying in bulk, it was about $65/5000.

When I have seen them in the stores the past month, it was $60-70 per thousand :(

I concur that finding out the day the truck unloads at the big box and then camping outside before opening is probably what you need to do.

I stopped at three big box locations on the way home today, nothing. The sales staff must get asked about primers a lot because all of them were short with the "No, no primers in stock and don't know when we will get them!" Calm down, I was just asking! When I asked about their delivery truck they all said "we get deliveries everyday" so I guess I am going to have to go in there in ask them everyday now.[rockon]

$74.99 at a local reloading supply place, for Fed GMM LRP's. SRP's?? I can find heroin and hookers easier in an oklahoma, bible belt, town. Than i can SRP's , or SPP's

I'm in the same boat, I have 100 spp left. I've been looking at scheels and sportsmans and seem to always be a few hours to late. Hopefully they will start to show up on the shelves more.

Based on the current administrations, actions. Declaring those who have not been vaccinated, Enemies of the State. Rising fuel, food and building material prices. Along with inability to stock the shelves with any consumable item. Shortages of raw materials, labor shortages. NEVER.
Think back to a point in history, when the same scenario played out.

We have seen primer shortages before. 10 years ago I had to drive to Utah to get 5k of them because couldn't find them in CO. Things got better, but it took about 18-24 months. We are at the 18 month point now.
The shortages always coincided with an election. This one was a little worse because of the pandemic and the general strife and conflict all over the news. We?re probably past the election enough that things would be getting back to normal is it weren?t for the supply and labor shortages due to the covid.

Don't hold your breath, waiting. You may see or hear of primers for sale. But that current $0.75 per primer. Will look like a good deal, once they hit the $1.25 and up range.

Like rumors of a Sasquatch. People always say they see them but nobody really does.

Where you seeing $0.75 per primer? You mean $0.075? If they are going for almost a dollar a piece I?m selling all I have :)

Yikes! I haven't purchased primers in a few years, been working through what I have on-hand. Just saw midway had some CCI SRP in stock today. $89/1000 before hazmat!!!! Yowza! I paid less than that last time I bought 5k.

Yea, I wish I could say that Midway was gouging, but that is right about the going rate. Insane. I am not going to pay that price, just not going to give in.
It feels like a taste of what the command economy is going to be like.

Must have not bought in the last 10 years. Think it was quite a while before I saw them that cheap.
I?m sure they sold out quickly at that price.

'You gotta get 'em when you find them' is more inline with the current state of affairs. But, with that said, I want to pay a reasonable price for the product. The prices I see are just outrageous.

That all depends.
When someone has what you need, they get to set the price.
I seriously doubt you will find anyone willing to sell you primers at $30 per thousand.

Cabela's Lone Tree has a pretty good supply, though they don't last long.
I stopped putting them up here because some clown member decided he would be "salty" and give the counter staff grief for the prices they didn't set.

Damn, I was just in there on Saturday and they had none. As for giving the sales folks grief, that is just dumb ass stupid, they don't set the prices and most likely have to deal with dumb ass people all-day long, I feel for them.
