I think in the early day of AR, the stock was designed to accept a sling (my first AR accepts a sling.)

But as ARs get fancier, with things like free floating hand guards, they seem to have forgot about the sling.

I have one free floating had guard with a built in QD connection, but the stock I have on it doesn't support QD.

I have another AR where the stock supports QD, but the handguard does not.

Have the gun manufacturers just given up and said this is M-Lock, or Q-Lock, and you need to find an adapter?

How hard would it be for them to build a QD adapter into the handguard, and document it, as a feature?!

I can tell you the "stock" stock latch plate can be replaced with an enhanced one, esp ones with a QD from up to 3 positions on the stock latch plate itself. I gotta say I agree with what you said. As platforms further and further advance ("as guns get fancier", I believe is what you said) they seem to be leaving some of the basics out. I have to do something about this as well so I feel ya. That's why I mentioned the latch plate. From my own research, I have found they integrated the QD attachment straight into the framework of the stock latch plate. I have found several 1 & 3 position latch plates, still deciding. Anywhooser!! Hope this helps and have a fantastic weekend!!

Slings and sling mounts are kind of personal things. With all of the M-lok, key-mod, and whatever else there is these days, rather than stick you with whatever the manufacturer chooses for sling mounts they just leave it to the end user to add whatever works for them.

Not everyone uses a QD mount sling.

As I understand it, everyone should be using a QD mount sling. I mean I could tie a rope to my gun and call it good, but as far as sling systems go, QD, should be favored, no?

Most do, and IMHO probably should, but I'm no tier0 operator. Just saying not everyone does.

Biggest problem I see (hear) with an HK hook is getting hung up but there's other solutions and always snap buckles.

Why would they include something for free when they can sell you an "accessory" lnstead?

I have GI surplus black nylon slings on all of my AR rifles.
