Son has his final game of the season and Senior Year Saturday. The team is headed up tomorrow and staying the night before the game.
We are doing the same.
Anyone been there and back in the past few days?
Just want to know the road conditions or any surprises we may encounter.
Wife also wants to hit the outlets in Silverthorne on the way out there of course.
Thanks in advance.

I keep hearing from friends that the Waze app gives you ... current road conditions ... alternate routes ... construction detour suggestions ... etc. But I've never used it.

Have a safe trip. Good luck to your son's team!

You shouldn't have a problem over the passes but if rain happens in Glenwood Canyon there's a possibility of I-70 closing due to mudslides. So always check the CDOT website for any closure information. The alternative route through Kremmling, Steamboat and Craig will add about 4 hours to the trip.

Good luck in the games!

If the weather looks like rain in Glenwood do the 119 to 50 route to GJ.

Oh, Silverthorne has the same stores as castle rock but fewer. Nothing special.

I never understood the outlets as they don't offer discounted goods.

I recommend the weather.gov site and then locate yourself in the areas to identify more accurate weather. E.g. click in the canyon outside of Glenwood. If it's a 20% rain chance I wouldn't worry about it. 60% or above, detour in advance. The % never seems to be the "chance" it's practically the portion of the day that rains.

Haven't been east in awhile though, I find myself going to SLC more. Far less transients, less progressives, less traffic, no downtown bullshit. it's a breath of fresh air.

Very uneventful drive. Weather was nice, roads were dry, outlets sucked and gas prices sucked as well.

It usually goes that way. But sometimes weather, mudslides and bad truck driver issues cause closures that last from several hours to several days. The worst we encounter is the Fri-Sun ski traffic that makes I-70 into a stop and go parking lot that can add 2.5 hours to the trip from Silverthorne to Idaho Springs. The state and feds need to develop an alternate route or two across the divide besides I-70.

This one hurt .

It is hard when you are playing the home teams refs!!!
That game was literally stolen right in front of everyone.
The boys had them by 5 points until the last 50 seconds and the refs began to help the other team move the ball up the field. This is not a lie.
They scored with 5 seconds left thanks to the chain giving them magical first downs.
