Looking for someone that travels international a lot.

Wife will be going to Thailand in Feb 2010. Her passport is still under her maiden name. She will be changing the name on her passport to her married name in thailand. So her passport over to thailand will have her maiden name, back to the US will have her married name.

How do we book the flights??

Is our only option is to book two one way flights?

Thought about using maiden/married last name, but that won't fly. The name has to match exactly.

Thoughts?

Is She a U.S. Citizen? If so talk to the Department of State.

If she is not, then you'll need to talk to Immigration.

Don't rely on the Errornet for something this important.

And why not sort this out with the Thai embassy or consulate prior to her departure?

I can only think of a few reasons to go to Thailand, and tourism isn't one of them....

I'm with you on that, the reason I would consider going to Thailand would be best if I left the wife here in the States!

Okay, this occured back in '88, so it very well may have changed. My wife and I got married in Korea while I was stationed there. She traveled from the U.S. to Korea on a passport with her maiden name. We registered the marriage @ the U.S. Embassy and they provided her with documentation on her passport showing her name had changed - but she kept the same passport and tickets home with her maiden name (the passport still showed the maiden name).

I don't know if that helps, but it's all I've got to offer. Definitely check with the State Dept. AND the airlines.

My wife is a passport agent. I showed your post to her and she said to get it changed now, it dosen't take long, and she could have problems if she dosen't.

Here is what we are going to do...

1. She is a Thai citizen

Cant update her passport now because her Thai ID is not under her married name.

So when she goes to Thailand she will update her Thai ID with her married name, and leave her passport alone (Keep her maiden name). We will book her tickets under her maiden name since that will not be changing. We will then just have to head to LA to get her passport changed.

Thx for the help and advice... its been a cluster fuck.

I never talk to you in person, but I just had to send Gloria to Las Vegas for a day to get her passport. At least they are able to get the passport in only a few hours.

Ginsue is right. When she gets the new passport, make sure she gets the cancelled passport with her maiden name back. That coupled with a copy of her name-change paperwork or marriage certificate should be good enough. For extra security you can call the airline she's traveling on to 1) let them know of the situation and 2) make sure you get a copy of their procedures in writing to show to the gate agent (if she needs).

The wife says get with the Thai consulant to verify that all will be ok. She thinks you will have problems doing it the way you are going about it. A call will should do it.

You know the other option that wasn't discussed on here yet simon........

Just leave her in Thailand. :D hahah... Her and Siri can enjoy being home... maybe a little longer than they planned. It will be like being single again for a bit.

Just kidding. lol[Beer]
