It is with great regret and a heavy heart that I have to announce the passing of one our members Steve Becht, He went by Zombie Steve here. Those that were privileged to be his friend knew him to be an outstanding human being, an excellent shooter, and a genuine stand-up guy.

I knew Steve well and we were fast friends. I know there are others here who knew him better and for much longer, and I hope you will chime in with your recollections. He was a cool cat. Irreverent, witty, and sharp as a razor. He could and did make friends with most everyone he met. He was the kind of guy who would drop whatever he was doing at a moment?s notice to either help a brother out or go do something fun.

He helped me sell a house about six weeks ago. Did an outstanding job, of course. We went shooting a couple weeks later and he said he?d forgotten to get us a thank you gift at which point he handed me a bottle of wine for my wife. Then he handed ME a brick of CCI 450M primers. He knew I used them in quantity and was down to almost nothing because I was always griping about it. Said he?d just gotten them from Midway after paying whatever the outrageous cost is these days. He was THAT kind of guy.

Steve was a young man by my standards. He was a big guy, tall, fit and strong. No underlying health issues and in the prime of his life. COVID got him. He passed at home probably Thursday or Friday. I was in contact with him just last Wednesday, and while he was not feeling great, there was no indication he was in trouble.

Memorial arrangements are unknown at this point, but I will provide updates as they become available.

I?d encourage anyone to share a memory of him here if so inclined. I, for one, would love to hear them.

Steve Becht, you will be missed!

[MOD EDIT TO ADD]

Rest in peace. Sorry to hear about a good guy passing. Posts like this make me think about all the good people we've lost while doctors, the media, and politicians play a game with this virus.

I wish I was able to get to know him better. He always was looking forward to going out to grab some breakfast or lunch, unfortunately our schedules made that hard.
Key lesson, always make the time. He will be missed.

Steve was my friend.

I've been wracking my brain trying to think of a specific memory I could share with everyone but all I can come up with are little snips of images of Steve. They all include him smiling and enjoying life - often times (but not always) while enjoying a good beer or whiskey.

For reasons I can't fathom, Steve looked up to me. What I never shared with him is how much I looked up to him; for his quick wit, great (yet oftentimes inappropriate) sense of humor, for his optimistic attitude, for his knowledge of firearms and reloading, and most importantly for his ability to treat everyone as a friend.

We have a lot of amazing folks on this site but I haven't had the blessings to meet most of you and get to know you as I did with Steve. While I didn't know him half as well as I wish I had, I know that this site and our world will be a much lesser place without him.

Rest in peace and grace Steve - you will be sorely missed.

ETA: For those here who knew him, know that you don't have to grieve alone. There are many here who feel the loss with you and I'm here to talk or hang out with any of you should you desire it.While I'm no longer much of a drinker, tonight I'll poor a glass of good whiskey and drink it in Steve's memory. I think he'd like that - and probably call me something inappropriate for the thought, just to get a laugh.

Very sorry to hear of Steve's passing. Though we never met in person we shared conversations over 18+ years on GT and this forum. He will be missed.

Steve was of those guys you can count on. Truly was a wonderful person.

Him and I had some great times together. We burned more powder together then most any two guys will do. Found the bottom of countless bottles of good Bourbon and bad Bourbon. We cast tens of thousands of bullets while drinking beer, chewing tobacco and spitting on last months calendar girl. Solve the worlds problems, we sure did every Wednesday night for years.

Steve is my best friend, my brother and I loved him dearly. The world will be less of a place without you. You left your mark. You did a great job.

Till we meet again

Steve's memorial service was beautiful with a few tears and a few laughs as stories of him were shared.

Kim from Specialty Sports here in COS spoke and I finally learned where the "Zombie Steve" moniker came from- she gave it to him.
