View Full Version : Gun magnets
I have a shelf I'd like to stash a pistol under. Looking for opinions, experiences and intel about the various magnets out there for this purpose. Good ones vs junk of course, problems, etc. But mainly I want to know where to get one, places that have them in stock. I don't want to order one blindly, I don't do Amazon - I'm an old coot that prefers to look things over in person whenever I can.
Any input?
They work. I have a couple around and have an AR pistol hanging from one on my safe door. Look for rubberized coatings to prevent scratches as well as large contact areas. I don't think I've seen one that doesn't come with mounting screws.
I got mine off Amazon but a quick search brought some up at Cabela's and Sportsman's. Mine are similar to this one (https://www.amazon.com/KEEPER-MG-Gun-Magnet-Vehicle/dp/B07GGYFWL3/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=gun+magnet&qid=1639072472&sr=8-72) just for reference.

I?ll bite.
How did you manage to get the AR to stick to the magnet? The barrel?

It attaches to the law folder and the barrel rests on a lip on the bottom of the door. Gravity and magnets working together!
Cheapest/easiest I have found off-the-shelf is a metal stud finder from Ace Hardware for less than $10 last I bought one. Strong magnet and they're coated in a red plasticky coating that is more friendly to the surfaces than other magnet situations I've seen.
I use those harbor freight free magnet for pistol.
However, I do not use it for strike fire trigger safety type of pistol.
As for rifle and shotgun, I use kopin type of mount.
Whichever type you make it attaches to the barrel in at the correct place. If properly placed they can increase the muzzle velocity 15 to 30 percent.
Thats what the high milage car guy told me.
