View Full Version : Thoughts on CMMG uppers?
I'm toying with putting together an M16A4 MWS clone and I'm wondering what you guys think of CMMG uppers? They seem to be the only manufacturer (that I can order from online) that carries a complete 20in upper with a 1/7 twist barrel, but it's pricey at $575. If I stick with a 1/9 I can get a 20in uppper from Del-ton for $395. Are the CMMG uppers worth the premium? Or perhaps someone can recommend another upper with a 1/7 barrel?
you can call del-ton and I am pretty sure they can get you a 1/7 barrel.
CMMG is pretty good, but for that price, I'd go with BCM. They make 1/7 uppers, and they are TOP of the line in terms of quality.
Here is the BCM upper for $425, plus $145 for a BCM BCG.

I forgot about Bravo Company. Yeah, I'd rather go with them for the same price. I'll prob do what Sniper7's suggested as well and see what Del-ton would charge for a 1/7 barreled upper. Thanks for the input guys.
CMMG is a middle of the road manufacturer. Not bad, just not anything to write home about. Del-Ton is below that. Take a hard look at the BCM solution.

Hello, I have a 16" CMMG and I'm very pleased with it. I know 3 other friends / family members with CMMG's as well; no complaints. I handload/reload 75gr OTM bullets and the CMMG loves them. Still toying with the load characteristics but I'm getting 5 shot groups under 1" at 100 yards.
I bought a complete CMMG piston upper and have tried it on every lower I have. It fits so tight I have to hammer the rear pin out to open the gun. When I cycle the bolt it hangs up in the buffer tube. I called tech support on 3-9-10 and told them about the problems, they said to send the entire gun to them for repair. It's going out today, 3-10-10, I'll update the thread on how they handle the repair.
