Interesting. I'll be curious what they do about prices... If it's a "park", even day-use fees should be less than what Colorado Clays previously cost.
I did hear that. Good for them. I've done a bunch of shooting out there. Hope they continue to keep it a nice place to shoot.
How does that affect their ability to host groups that want to rent the whole place for fundraising shoots?

It's a nice facility, but I view it as just another step in the process for validating a complete ban on dispersed recreational shooing on public land.

Ugh. My gut feeling is this is bad. That place always seemed to be well run during the many times I've been there. I can't imagine CPW can continue that. I hate the idea of a private range becoming property of the state.
CPW isn't running it but I'm sure they can still find a way to screw it up.
"CPW entered into a concessionaire agreement with its previous Vice President of Marketing Cory Kraft, who will continue to run the facility under CPW ownership, the agency said.
“We are excited to partner with the state to continue to offer a safe, convenient and affordable recreational shooting range for local Coloradans,” Kraft said."

We will see. HS State Trap is already scheduled there for June, so I assume that will stay since already agreed to. I hope our 30 kids Trap team still gets to shoot for a slightly reduced rate.

Yeah, I'm sure that was a fair bid process...
As people mentioned.
Wondering about the price and are they going to charge park entrance fee, etc.

Have to pay it to shoot at Cherry Creek.

Previous CO Clays employee I think is what the article meant. In that they would use someone from CO Clays to run it.

The stated reason for the purchase was to provide more opportunities for safe shooting recreation on the front range. This does absolutely zero to that effect. If they truly wanted to provide more opportunities, they would make an additional range facility. This purchase nets zero change in shooting opportunities.

So nobody else is bothered by the very concept of Government buying a for-profit business?

I am. While I am happy for the Krafts, not happy about who bought it.
Since it is done deal, question is
Is it going to be like Cameo? Or Cherry Creek Family?
I saw this on the local news yesterday, wife was watching, I caught in passing.
I thought I heard them say there would be no fees to use.

Hmm. That hardly seems like the CPW I've come to know.

Do they offer more than just shotgun oriented shooting? The pic of the stands looks like possibly a rifle range. I've always assumed shotgun only based upon the name.

They were a dedicated shotgun range for quite a while but I believe they added some sort of rifle range several years ago.
I think.

When I shot trap at the facility, there was a small, highly baffled rifle range.
They have a pistol/rifle range. They charge per person per hour

And they have much more reliable gasoline gauges than any Japanese / "West" German / American automobile.
