View Full Version : Trimming 9mm brass
I have buckets of 9mm brass and it?s about time to start loading a bunch of it. I?d like to run it all through a trimmer before I do.
I?ve got a Forster Classic Case trimmer that works great for rifle cartridges. It doesn?t work worth a shit for 9mm cases. The listed mandrel size didn?t fit inside the case mouth. The listed collet won?t hold the base. The damned aluminum base even needs swapped out for a shorter version. RUFKM? There must be a better way.
What are you guys using for trimming 9mm brass?

I have never trimmed a piece of 9mm brass in my life and don’t plan to ever do that. In fact I don’t believe I’ve ever trimmed any pistol or revolver brass.

I can't imagine a level of boredom that would make me trim 9mm brass...
Just load it and shoot it![Beer]

Same. Never trimmed any pistol brass for sure. Load, shoot, repeat until eventually the brass splits and isn?t good anymore.
I might have trimmed some 44 mag brass about thirty years ago. Can?t quite remember why.
Dont. Just dont.
I get pretty anal about things I can control on my ammo.
But trimming 9mm brass ranks about dead last on my list of things that I am willing to do. Not because it is a pain, but because the value added is almost zero.

So?. I batch trim my 38spl brass once to get it all to the same length. The roll crimp otherwise is a crap shoot. But it?s only once and never again.
I'm happy if the flash hole is present.

Just clean them and start loading. A waste of time to trim them.

I'm just curious, why did you want to trim them???
Because I wanted them a consistent length.

Because I wanted them a consistent length.
Which does nothing, when you consider not all the bullets in the same box. Are the same OAL. But if you have the time and like a tedious project, enjoy. I did it 1x, on about 25 - 357 cases, The looked nice and uniform, but did nothing performance wise.
I?m glad I could help you feel better today.

I'm happy if only one flash hole is present.
Fixed it for you.
