From Hancock's press release on 2022 crime fighting today:

Developing and implementing a Conceal Carry Ban in city-owned facilities.

Coming soon to a municipality near you.

They should be required to have lockers for storage while in the buildings along with airport type screening...

Nah, they don't want you protecting yourself in their crime ridden town.

Yup- The whole goal of the pre-emption elimination bill was to make lawful concealed carry so onerous in the urban corridor that most non-criminal responsible people just give it up.

yes, that has been the cause of all the crime--licensed carriers.

Mayor Token never met a crisis he couldn't exploit

Yeah, the most crime ridden city, next to Pueblo, in CO wants to ban conceal carry...

Fark! I'm leaving at the right time!

Interesting discussion in this article by some council members about the upcoming hearing, including questioning the justification and why only one side of the debate was consulted.

Please join the Zoom today (Wednesday) at 10:30 if you are able (link in story).

Interesting thing to note about Denver banning carry in their parks - they have many parks OUTSIDE of Denver city limits. So you could be strolling around in Evergreen and wander into Dedisse Park, for example, and become a criminal.

Concealed carry is concealed …
I would rather have my wife bailing me out than recovering my body from the morgue …

Cities are for the young and restless. Wouldn't that be a good name for a TV show?

Sounds like the ban proposal is moving forward to the full council...

https://www.axios.com/local/denver/2022/04/28/concealed-carry-crackdown-crime-denver

This thought process hurts my brain...

The goal of the crackdown, he told council members Wednesday, is to further "mitigate risk" of violent crime, which continues to soar in Denver and across the country.

Expanding the boundaries of the city's concealed-carry ban outside of where it already exists, including courtrooms, post offices, the City and County and schools, will help do just that, Newbine said.

Yup- The typical permitted concealed carrier is the problem, NOT the thug he or she may have to defend against. In fact, they are actually the same threat to the community.

"So, what prompted the new proposal? It sure wasn?t because concealed-carry permit holders were causing problems in parks or on other public property. The City Attorney?s Office admits it never bothered to find out if there ever has been even one such incident."

"?When guns are carried in public places, even when it?s carried by a law-abiding citizen, it creates a safety risk."?

"Ironically, the legislature passed another law last year that makes it almost impossible to charge convicted felons with felony possession of a firearm on a subsequent offense. Which means bad guys get to prowl our streets with guns ? while decent Denverites who try to defend themselves face up to a $50 fine and up to a $999 fine and 300 days in jail for a subsequent offense."

Thanks for making my blood pressure explode.

The arrogance and patronization in those quotes are obscene.

The contempt they hold for someone wants be to able to defend themselves or their family in public is unfathomable

- Exactly how many gun-related crimes are being committed by permitted carriers in Denver parks and buildings . . . or, like, pretty much anywhere???

- What could possibly be LESS SAFE than letting the actual criminals know that there aren't likely to be any (or at least as many) permitted carriers in those areas after a ban?

- With crime up and public safety resources down . . . what sense in any sane world does this make? (purely rhetorical . . . the anti's have no sense)

That logic has no place here. The Ministry of Truth will be along shortly to clear things up.

https://pagetwo.completecolorado.com/2022/04/21/kopel-a-letter-to-the-denver-city-council-on-licensed-concealed-carry/

"Coloradans with concealed handgun permits, for which the minimum age is 21: 233,606 CHP holders. Permit revocations based on arrest: 237. Result: one arrest per 986 persons. "

Those arrest are not defined as gun related or otherwise.

The rate of "violent or threatening malfeasance with carry gun" is going to be one or two orders of magnitude less than that.

Facts and logic, what does that have to do with Denver City Council?

Aloha_Shooter

So does this mean Denver is assuming responsibility and financial liability for preventing law-abiding citizens from defending themselves against violent crime?

... and it's done:

https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/denver-city-council-bans-concealed-carry-guns-from-parks-city-buildings

Don't read the story if you don't want a brain aneurysm.

The hilarious part is that the mention that disregarding the directive is a "non-criminal" violation.

I do wonder who are the three defenders of common sense. They probably have permits, excepting Chewbacca if she one of them.

Edit to add:

I found a little more info to answer that question.

"Flynn... reiterated Monday night that when he asked the City Attorney?s office and the Denver Police Department for data on crimes committed by permit holders, they had none."

So, it seems the answer to the question is exactly zero.
