Anyone have it?
I remember as a kid the Olympics seemed to be a much bigger day than they are now. Granted, there are a lot more entertainment options now. Looking at the ratings, it doesn't appear many people care to tune in.
Some pundits are claiming it is because China tried to kill the world with bat fever and communism and all that.
I think it's because the winter games kinda suck. Not a lot of head to head competition. Hockey and curling is about it.
Watching skiers take turns flying down a hill is interesting for a run or two but gets old quickly. The coverage usually stinks as well. Way too many personal interest stories about the obstacles overcame and I am sure endless commercials.
Sorry NBC, maybe next time.

I still enjoy the Olympics, and find it more interesting than most things on TV.
I’ve tried watching it a couple times but it’s not been any good… this is the worst coverage I’ve ever seen in memory. Nobody cares to watch people in the crowd at the bottom of the slope, talking to each other or in their radios.

That's what did it for me with most televised sports. Seems like it started around 20 years ago. Evidently it was a trend. I read that the increase in personal interest stories was a strategy to increase female viewers.
I enjoy athletic competition. I don?t tune in for a soap opera.
The coverage suuuucks.
Add to that the IOC is as corrupt as the UN and I really just don?t care as much as I used to.

What's not to like?
Athletes are winning tickets to quarantine camps.
Americans are giving up their citizenship to compete with Chinese colors.
Plus, the setting is so magical this year. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220209/2c2fcd85dbf134b223a4e5e4cd65d2bb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220209/f089c7a08f5e33bf2b15c17b4f8eca6a.jpg
I enjoy it. I went to Calgary in 1988 and Salt Lake in 2002. NBC sucks I watch an Olympics channel that I have on Hulu.

Red Gerard, from Silverthorne, unexpectedly won gold at the Slopestyle Snowboard event in 2018 at age 17. Unfortunately, he got 4th on Sunday night, but this was his tweet before the event...
Couldn’t be more proud to rep the Stars and Stripes.

I've been diligently watching the Mixed Doubles curling. Granted, I've been curling for near a decade Haven't watched anything else.
Forgot to mention - I paid my $5 to Peacock and have been watching there. I've been pleased with their replays.

Absolutely zero interest in the Olympics (or any other televised sport for that matter). I'd get more enjoyment watching my neighbors doing mundane yard work.
Way too many personal interest stories about the obstacles overcame and I am sure endless commercials.
Soon enough these personal interest stories will resemble the U.S. Army ads from last year. We'll see "Shortly after I was born 20 years ago, my two moms realized I wasn't actually a white boy, my true nature was that I am the black girl you see before you today. Because I lived in the bigoted oppressive country of the United States, I had to wait until I was 18 to actually begin my gender-correction. My training for the Olympics was made especially difficult as all of the carbon emissions in the air hampered my ability to reach my top performance as a competitive curler. But, I finally made it! I'm so thrilled to be here to represent my new adopted nation of Venezuela."
Yeah, no thanks.
The split screen ads did it for me. They blahblahblah over the (extremely poor) commentators, and the ad takes up more room on the screen than the event they're allegedly covering. Fuggit, I'll go back to binge watching Lucifer....

The coverage is horrid. The commentators are simply crap. My wife had on figure skating and I turned it off and hid the remote. It was like listening to a drag show commentary. Don't judge me. Or do. The ratings show that there is no interest for all the sports. It's at an all time low.
I don’t have regular TV so no way to watch it for me unless I’m out somewhere, and when I am out and it is on they never show the sports I’m interested in so it’s mostly a distraction.

1980 should have been the last Olympics. The entire spirit of the thing was destroyed then and now its just another BS political tool for oppressive regimes and a way for crooked people to line their pockets.

I was genuinely wondering why there were so many Olympic commercials.
Richard Jewell probably did not watch Olympics after 1996.

Not watching a bit, not even hockey.
I do find the conduct of the Chyknees disgusting, their cute tricks in speedskating that were so obvious and got competitors disqualified only to place their own athletes in medal positions.
There have been numerous allegations of competitors from other countries being tested "positive" for COVID and then quarantined even though no symptoms are present. While in quarantine they have been fed meals that would make a homeless dog vomit and come nowhere near the requirements that elite athletes require.
Tipping the table perhaps?
I am watching skiing and snowboarding highlights, because there are unusually many skiers and snowboarders falling down on this Olympics.
The nuclear power plants and stack scene was another od things I've seen on Olympics.

The only winter Olympics with 100% man-made snow. All have had to make snow. None have had to make 100% of it.
Wonder if that has something to do with all the falls.
I have heard for years that CBC has great coverage and I'm now close enough to Canada that I get it. My curiosity is now piqued.

That is my guess. Slushy snow.
They probably are not those dense packed snow.
Non of athletes blame snow as yet.
If you blame the snow you get a positive Covid test, isolation, and terrible food.
Probably.

The US born athletes who are competing for China was another reason I have zero interest. One of the gals was born in California. Has for any years. She was a US citizen until a few years ago. Now she is a China citizen. Funny thing is, China does not allow duel citizenship. So she must have let her US citizenship "expire" Basically she is no longer a US citizen. But wait, there's more. She apparently is going to some ivy league college next year. Word on the news is that she is going to the school under a US citizen and not under the rules and regulations of a foreign student. Apparently some right wing groups are going to investigate it and look into what's going on. Heard all this while listening to Freedom Radio the other day. Oh, she also dodged all questions about it when asked by reporters after winning her medal. I say she should stay there.

Aside from all the political reasons not to watch, I agree the backstory/personal interest stories ruined sports coverage, even before the kneelers took over. Even in NASCAR there's such idiocy--last laps and they'll do a cut shot to a driver's wife watching the race instead of the cars on the track.

Anschunz Faulkner action. A must have.
(Didn't check spelling)
The Vegas should have had those fall bets.
Having fun watching who will fall or not fall on ski, snowboard, and ice skate. Even many gold medalist fell this year.
Surprisingly short track skate is where people fall a lot and haven't heard anyone falling.(maybe they are not done with this event)
I know y'all anti-olympics would be missing your favorite Men's Doubles Luge.

Several news outlets have reported that all the snow for 2022 Olympics is artificial. They get natural snow but not enough to rely upon for most events.

This morning on Good Morning America there was a comment on how it was snowing and it was a remarkable event seeing how that region typically does not get snow.
OK now- work with me on this:
If it is a region that typically does not get snow:
A- why was this region selected for the WINTER Olympics?
B- why was this region selected for the WINTER Olympics?
C- why was this region selected for the WINTER Olympics?

1. Cause IOC commies have been the chi-commies bitches for years.
2. IOC elitists are commie sluts.
3. IOC elitists have been full tard for decades.

Answer to A B C are so long that I will have to pass on writing it. They try to show the world that they do not cheat or do genocide/racial/religious bias towards some western provinces, but they are failing miserably.

I used to love watching the Olympics, both summer and winter. Lost interest in them years ago when they seemed to become more spectacle than sport. Too much corruption in the IOC and sporting bodies, too many athletes or sports "journalists" using it as a forum to spread their socio-political crap. Certainly not interested in rewarding NBC or the PRC this year.

The natural snowfall that happened this weekend at the Olympics is SO rare there that they actually cancelled events because of it. They cancelled winter Olympic events because it snowed.

Non state sanctioned snow?
Assuming there are no weirdness, no politics, no crazy advertisement, it had low interest in US.
Very little and spotty coverage. Just covering highlights gets old. They were doing thst for about 15+ years.

Probably the only way you'd get me to watch the winter Olympics is if they moved women's beach volleyball from the summer games...
If they did it nude or topless even.......I'd be down with some viewership.
I caught the highlights of Nathan Chen's short program and his free skate program on Youtube, but that's it. I used to figure skate when I was younger and know how hard it is, so it was easy to admire the mastery he has on the ice.
Other than that, I didn't watch it.
I feel for the athletes who truly are in it and who have worked so hard for their entire lives; they can't help it the government has shit the bed and foreign governments are obviously Insect Overlords in people suits. There are some incredibly skilled people representing the US. The fact that there are US Citizens actually competing for China still has me struggling to understand how that's even legal, much less a thing....and much less the character of said individual, but that's neither here nor there.

I dunno....
Maybe some of those athletes only identify as women.
I know in the past, there were Canadian playing for Team USA and etc.
This 2022 Olympics has been way too many of those different nationality competing for different nation.
