NFA Storage and transfer fees

Getting my first suppressor soon. Trust is setup with SS, and now Im seeing mention of transfer and storage fees.

I get that if I buy them from SS online and ship to one of their powered by dealers there should be no transfer fee, but then that dealer can charge me storage of the item during the wait. Seems like this is the norm from what I could find. So if I buy from another dealer, and have it shipped to my dealer, I will pay tax, shipping, transfer fee and storage fee?

I am aware they need to make money on the deal too for the trouble and work. How has your experience with local dealers? How much did they charge? Do some dealers charge more because they really dont want to be bothered with it?

Most dealers don't actually charge you for storage, unless things are taking an inordinately long time, or you get approved and then don't pick it up and finish the transaction in a timely manner. You will be paying an NFA transfer fee to the transferring dealer, which usually includes the storage for the time it will take to process the Form 4 to your trust. If there is no transfer fee for an SS powered-by dealer, it's because they are being paid their transfer fee from SS as part of your purchase price, but somewhere along the line a transfer fee is being paid. Dealers generally don't do transfers for free out of the goodness of their hearts.

If you're paying a separate transfer fee to a non-"powered by" dealer, there should be no tax charged on the transfer itself - any tax you pay will be to the original seller, not the transfer dealer.

Absolutely some dealers charge higher fees because they'd rather you bought something they have in stock rather than handling a transfer for you, so shop around to find the lowest NFA transfer fee you can, from a dealer you're comfortable doing business with, provided you don't end up using a "powered by" SS dealer.

Just an FYI, no one else replied because there wasn't much to add.
It's been a few years since I've transferred anything in, but typical dealer fees were between $50 and $80 for the transfer. As stated, no tax, no other fees. The receiving dealer gets a fee for running it through his books (which is reasonable). I've used a few different SOT dealers in the past, and as long as they are competent I've never had any issues. There's at least one local here that I wouldn't use, but for the most part any of them are going to be capable of some minor paperwork, accepting an NFA Item, and calling you when they receive your approval letter.

I asked Silencer Shop directly:
They said that, unless I get my item transferred to an out-of-network dealer from the one I originally selected through their website, there is no additional fee to be paid.

Yeah, SS has their kiosk system pretty streamlined. It’s a good way to go if they’ve got what you want.
