Guess who won?

"Because the little .380 ACP rounds didn't seem to discourage the moose, Bridgett acknowledged she is now carrying a .44 Magnum revolver"

I had a young bull moose come at me and a hunting buddy while we were quartering an elk in a meadow north of Vail.

We had already packed half the cow out, so we left our muzzleloaders at the truck and I grabbed my defensive 9mm to bring back with us for the 2nd load as it was nearing dusk.

The young bull was passing by in some trees about 50 yards away with two cows as we were working on the 2nd half of the elk. He saw us, turned 90deg and came towards us. Not at a run, but at a semi-fast pace. I drew my pistol as we were yelling and jumping up and down to scare it. When he got within 15 yards I fired a shot into the ground to see if that would deter it. He barely hesitated and kept coming. I fired two more in the ground as he closed even more. He stopped at about 6-7 yards from us and lowered his head and started grunting. I took aim at his face and said "I hope 9 rounds is enough to stop a moose".

We stayed that way for a few moments and the moose decided he made his point and turned to catch back up to his cows. He just needed to act tough for them I guess.

I don't bring a 9mm stuffed with defensive rounds into the woods anymore.

The compact .380 was probably loaded the "latest and greatest" two-legged defensive hollow-points, not FMJ or hardcase, making the choice even worse.
