Later I'll post some links to other boards that have tons of discussion on this topic, but I thought it might be useful to post the conclusion I came to.

As I posted in the "Pictures of your latest purchase" thread a month or so ago, I bought parts for a DIY annealer.

The conclusion I've come to is the fact that the annealing times are so short, like 2-7 seconds, that case position is within the coils is critically importance.

I just don't think I can hold that kind of tolerances with the coil hanging out in front of the machine, which was the design I was setting up.

One bump that distorts or moves the coil, and all my calibration and testing is for naught.

So, an AMP Mk2 is in my future. It encloses the coil within the machine, protecting it from being disturbed, and it accurately "head spaces" the case to assure accurate positioning.

If anyone is interesting in taking a run at a DIY annealer, I'll put the parts up for sale in about a week or two.
