I've been perusing pictures for days trying to decide which Boyd's stock color I think I want. I've gotten nowhere. I'm at the point now where I'm considering calling Boyd's and asking them which color is the most underrated and just going that route.

Any opinions?

Military w/ Grim Reaper would be my choice.

What do you mean "underrated"?

Excellent but not as popular as it should be.

Boyd's will tell you what they anticipated would sell better but they have overstock of.

I don't understand.

Are you buying it for yourself of someone else?

I'm not trying to be a dick. I honestly don't understand the question.

There are some hideous laminates on that site.

Choose your top five and winnow it down from there.

That's the next step I think.

Underrated meaning undervalued. Something that is fantastic in person, but doesn't sell as well as it should. So there's not a million of them out there. Zombie, blue, and Pepper appear to be very popular, and I'd rather not have the same thing as everyone else if there's a nice alternative that just doesn't sell as well.

I can't tell what these things will look like in person, and the different colors appear to vary wildly in color and personal appeal when looking at online photos from customers.
This would be to replace the black plastic on a Savage 93r17 with the sporting barrel profile. It is for me.

I've bought two stock sets from Boyd's, won't be a third.....

Good to know. Share some specifics if you're so inclined. I'm interested in replacing the plastic black Savage stock, but I don't HAVE to do anything. It's a lightweight suppressed varmint rifle that works well as-is, with an irritatingly cheap feeling stock.

I have a couple boyds stocks on rifles, but the only ones I have kept thus far have been the stocks for Savage bolt action rimfires.

For the price, they are fine, but IMO they require a fair bit of work to be good for much. I'll have to see if I have pictures still, but I epoxy bedded my actions into the stocks, and it made a huge difference in the feel/final product.

For colors, I have done unfinished wood and then stained/varnished myself, flat black, and then I have one in the Pepper Laminate (grey/black).
