April 19th city council meeting.
They want to ban open carry, concealed carry everywhere, and possession of assault weapons, ghost guns, stabilizing devices (whatever that is) and blah blah...
Also limit gun sales and implement a waiting period for purchases. I don't know of any gun stores in Edgewater but there are a couple of pawn shops.
Of course Tom Mauser will be there. He is a leading local anti-everything guy.

Dems are getting what they want with the elimination of the pre-emption law

Is Edgewater too small that a court challenge will not happen?

And still, most gun owners have no clue this is coming to their local area.

Why though? Like...what bad has come from any of these things?
Looks like they have a bunch of restrictions on FFLs, but I can't find a single FFL in the Edgewater zip code of 80214

Fear.
The strongest motivation humans know. Our big brains allow us to imagine all sorts of perilous scenarios. For some, that is sufficient to prod politicians into action, and we all know they are looking for anything to make them look good.
Armor piercing .50 caliber bullets are big and scary so by banning them, there is one less thing to fear. The frightened masses sleep better at night, politicians can show how how much they care come election time.
Reality has no place in modern politics.

Yep, that was the plan all along.

Good ol Edgewater. Hipsters spend hundreds of thousands to millions on revamped shitboxes and thought the area would change with them. Nope. It’s still riddled with the same crap that’s always been there. Guess they feel these new laws will make them safer. Let’s see how that works out.
One more reason, as if needed, to stay out of that shit hole of a town.

Follow-up article on the meeting on the 19th.
A lot of people showed up, including Nephi Cole from the NSSF. He said he'd be happy to go over their plan point by point to clarify and explain things.
Most speakers were against this nonsense. The council said it wasn't as bad as people thought- there was a lot of misinformation out there.
The rats scatter when a light is shown upon them.
Glad some folks with brains showed up!
Used to be a good burger joint there, been gone for years. Is Edgewater Jeep still there?
<edit> Huh, looks like they moved to Canon City - bit of a drive.....
I sure you will all be shocked by this development in the Edgewater story.
"Emails obtained by Complete Colorado show an Edgewater City Councilwoman has been working on enacting local gun rights restrictions alongside other Colorado communities since late 2021 and worked in close partnership with anti-gun advocacy groups to present a decidedly one-sided presentation on gun violence to her fellow council members."

Hannah Gay Keao is a zealot.
"Tonight I, a Councilwoman with a uterus, listened & learned through our 3rd thoughtful convo on gun violence prevention in the community I was elected to serve, and was told that all legislation we were considering was chipping away at gun rights.
Truly."

A report on the May 3 meeting.
It looks like they pulled back all their restrictions except for open carry. Dave Kopel showed up and told them that that's probably a bad idea as well pending an eminent supreme court ruling.
It is great to see democracy in action. Holding elected officials responsible for their actions and having an open discussion about issues is the way it should be.
However, I can see Hannah Gay Keao and her backers using this as a springboard to launch her campaign for state level office. She will be able to point to her efforts here and claim that if she had just a little more power, she could really get things done.
She is one to keep an eye on, countering her offense as often as possible. Especially since she has the backing of Moms Demand Action. They have a lot of money and are determined to put anti-gun candidates into office.

We need these pro-gun subject matter experts attending the meetings here in Boulder and the Boulder County communities, plus Denver.

She received only 5% of campaign contributions from citizens of Edgewater. 61% of her contributions were from out-of-state and 4% were from DC. This was a common theme among all but one of the board members who ran in the 2021 election (even though all candidates ran uncontested, and were guaranteed a seat just by running). The contribution totals were ridiculously higher than in previous elections. This is bigger than just Edgewater.

Doing a Google image search, its pretty clear who wears the pants in her family scenario. She seems to fit the arrogant progressive description quite well.

We need to ask them. The NSSF guy seems willing to go anytime. Kopel is probably busier but he is a very strong, nationally recognised advocate and a lawyer that has, I believe, argued in front of the Supreme Court.

If you dig into Moms Demand Action, they are ultimately tied to Bloomberg, along with The Trace and Everytown. So they have a lot of money and a lot of press to push forward a candidate that agrees with them.
Read this- https://hannahgay.com/writing/39
It is Keao's writing on guns. A lot of feelings, some bad facts and calls for more government. A little bit of racism to cover all the bases.
"...it?s ultimately a bullet from a gun that is responsible for all this death (and injury). Addressing who pulls the trigger and why is half of the equation. The other half is fewer, less deadly guns."
"There are racial, gender, mental health, and other issues of hatred and bigotry mixed into these statistics..."
"Without white supremacy, toxic masculinity, unaddressed mental health issues, and more, fewer people would be dead."
This is one to watch.

They generally ignore the testimony. Getting it on the record for lawsuits has some merit, but generally it is pissing into a jet engine right when the afterburner gets lit.

Better than having only "experts" from one side have the podium.
