Hadn't heard about this, usually these links are only for ultra specific people. Of course it says its mailed, so with my luck my renters will get my mail in the fall after i moved...

If the state has 1.24 billion or more just laying around to hand out...
Election in November, Polis is making sure he can claim to be helping out the citizenry. Buying votes with our money.
How many of those 3.1 million "tax payers" didnt even pay into the system?

Kim Anderson, Member of the JBC, was on Jon Caldera's Devils Advocate show on PBS channel 12
She said taxpayer's probably would see about 300 refund, but are probably entitled to thousands if TABOR was strictly enforced.
There is a lot of Legislative manipulating potential before anyone sees the refund.
And then you'll be dinged on it when filing next year...
So, we'll be paying $800/couple in additional COL (inflation) from 2022 forwards just like the Stimmies? When they send $1.00, they usually keep $3.00, and we pay it all back.
Thanks government, for your stimulus/"rebates" with a low, low interest rate of 100% in the form of inflation.
The governor said this money will be a tax refund that residents get by Sept. 15 instead of spring 2023
....... so this would be basically an early return and not a refund from surplus or anything then? Useless kinda, not sure if i could benefit from leaving in June and only having half a year of wages to file next year.
Reducing vehicle registration fees?
Guess my $937 (3rd year) renewal on my 2020 truck is "reduced?" F*cking polesmoker and his predecessor Dickinpooper. Let's not forget that ass raping Ritter gave us.
The $235 on my 2018 RV that uses Colorado roads 6 times a summer, etc.

I have an idea. How about not taking the money in the first place instead of taking it and sending it back in the form of a "rebate" or whatever term of the month they want to use.

Yup
Yup
I have 3 vehicles, a utility trailer, and a camper.
1 truck and the utility trailer are registered. All will be leaving the state soon, I'll chance the tickets before I give em more money.

You're right, but traveling out of state with expired plates isn't something I'd like to chance.
At 76' bumper-bumper, +2 feet to transom, I'm already running over the legal length limit in every state except WY.

Should reduce taxes to prevent overcollection

Just a FYI for folks, they changed it so if you are expired more than 12 months, they delete the plate and you have to purchase new plates and they'll make you pay sales tax again.
The pinnacle of stupidity though, is that (big secret) LEO can't easily search them once they are deleted. DMV has to hand search for them. So, pretty sure LEO here, among other reasons, doesn't like pulling over heavily expired because they can't get any kind of timely feedback from dispatch as to whether the driver is likely friendly or a known serial killer.

I am notoriously forgetful about putting the sticker on my plate. I always renew on time, but even now my registration sticker is shoved in my glove box, even though I've had it for two months. I'll use this as a reminder to go stick it on today...probably. I usually only think about it when there is a cop behind me. But they've never pulled me over for it. I figured it was because they could see I was registered when they run the plate, and have better things to do with their time.

Where do you see that sales tax has to be paid again?

Interesting choice of descriptions.
The news release from the Governor is labeling this as the Colorado Dividend.
Dividends in the corporate world are distributions of profits.
The Governor considers taxes as profits???????
Didn?t click the link but if there?s some sort of surplus of money I?d rather they just fixed some of the crappy roads around here.
Also, are they only dishing this money out to the people who have loaned them money interest free throughout the year by paying more taxes than they owe?

before we moved i was going to get another temp tag from dmv. They wanted 5 yrs of unpaid lic fees, as well as taxes and other penalties prior to issuing me a temp tag. n Dropped by the trailer place we purchased it from. Asked the guy , How much for another temp tag, so i could move the trailer. Guy looks at my BOS, goes in to the office, walks back with a new temp tag. No charge he says. Threw him $50 for his time. Compared to the $500+ the state wanted.
AZ issues a 1 time, permanent plate for all trailers. Cost $140

Read other news. The state wants crappy roads. They are saying because of ozone levels, non-electric motor vehicle traffic has to be reduced. Why would the state encourage driving by having nice roads if that is their goal.
The State also doesn’t understand why concentration of ozone have increased the last two decades. It shouldn’t take any more than a half a brain (which obviously they don’t have) to figure out more people = more waste/consumption (heating, driving, toilets, landfills, etc) that will occur in an area.
Ironically I saw a study an something like 20% (it was a high number) of the energy consumption / pollution is coming from
Marijuana growing operations in Colorado.

Westminster has added a $6 a month road repair fee to our lot rent since January. Haven't seen much road repair in the area around me and it needs it badly !!!

Well, even electric vehicles probably aren?t any better at navigating the crappy roads in the state. In fact, the worse the roads get the advantage goes to driving larger trucks and SUVs. I?ve hit potholes in my truck at full speed that would have totaled a Honda Civic.
Polis also just announced he's finally coming through on his campaign promise of FREE pre-school. I have to congratulate him on his achievement, of creating a govt. program that doesn't cost me anything. I don't have any pre-schoolers, or grand-children that are pre-schoolers. So this is good news to me that my taxes won't be going to another scam to get him re-elected, because it's FREE!
So the state is going to give you a tiny portion of your money back, and the masses will think the democrats are heroes for doing it.

No.
Polis is going to buy people votes by giving them a little bit of "their" money back. In some cases, people didnt even pay $400 in state taxes and will get back more than they paid. So he will buy those votes with your money.
Interesting timing right before an election......

He is setting himself up for a Presidential run.
I have said it elsewhere, many times. The Democrats need a candidate that appears more center-left. He is trying to be that guy.
Yes, he is buying votes. They all do, in one way or another.
Polis is a smart guy and a good politician. With the probable shellacking the Democrats will receive this November, he is likely to be one of the rising stars of the Democrat party.

On a different topic from my previous post, people are fools when they see a tax refund as anything other than being overtaxed initially.
If payroll deductions were eliminated and everyone had to pay their "fair share" annually or quarterly, there would be a much greater resistance to, and awareness of, government spending.
It hurts a lot more when one has to write a check rather than see numbers on a paystub. One is very real, one is imaginary. It is a hard slap in the face of the conficatory policies currently in place when one realizes actual current combined tax rates are around 50% for most, but the company one works for pays parts of it.
It is a huge scam, veiled in a labyrinth of tax policy.
It makes my angry when, as a self employed business owner, my retired neighbor that works part time tells me I am "doing it wrong" when she gets a tax refund and I have to write a huge check to the IRS and Colorado.
There are no easy answers and I am not proposing any workable solutions. I am expressing my frustration.
So there.

People who get big refunds are doing it wrong.
Why would anyone pay more than they owe throughout the year?
People act like getting money back is a good thing when the reality is they basically took home less money throughout the year than they could have but instead they gave the government a loan and act excited when that loan is repaid to them without interest.

Because many people spend what they make; many spend more. A once a year gov't check provides them something they can't do on their own.
And speaking of interest these days... What kind of interest should someone expect on say $2000 ($167/month) self invested into something guaranteed this year? $20? Or is that setting the bar too high?
Forget my refund fix the damn roads. I’ve been on much better roads in 3rd world countries.

I would be giddy if the roads were like Swiss roads. They have mountains and snow also. So similar climate.
I would be happy for German roads…
I would settle for French roads.
Isn’t it sad that we can’t even make roads that are as good as French roads?

I'll take America over France's $6.00 a gallon gas, 45% income tax and 20% VAT.

I'm assuming that those complaining about Colorado's roads have never driven in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas, etc.

Colorado's roads are simply deplorable.

Agreed.
There's a significant difference between choppy roads, like in OK, compared to the eat your wheel stuff like on i70/e470 that has been there since I moved out here.
Or that hole on 270 on the overpass over the river

Their is NO MONEY to be made by fixing the roads with a product that lasted more than 3 months.
Ever notice that after large projects are completed it seems they are right back to where it started out.
Keeps the money flowing to CDOT. Why fix it correctly and lose out on your paycheck?
