Usually the image size is over the limit for the website. On my windows PC I use paint to save at 75% and can upload afterwards. On my phone I have an application called Image Size that will shrink them down a bit for upload.

ETA - often it is easier to simply provide a link to whatever online site you are storing the photos. I use Amazon, but they all offer a link option.

I typically only post from my phone and to reduce the file size, I'll send it to myself as a text first to shrink it down.

This thread has a good reference for describing the "How To" of posting pics: https://www.ar-15.co/threads/53831-How-to-post-pictures-within-your-thread

I'm posting this .png image from a 4th level sub-folder in my laptops Documents folder. It's just 20Kb in size. Eazy Peazy.
(NOTE: A lot of folks try to attach images or text directly from their mail apps. That doesn't work.)

I doubt that is much help to the original poster.

No? I figured it identifies what is possible on the site. The type of file use and where it was pulled from. Plus, the image itself identifies the types allowed and their size limits for the site.
