Plinking at long range?

In general for a "practical" rifle I think a red dot is better on an AR15.

If you want to do long range shooting a scope is better.

Get a red dot for close in with a larue mount and then a scope for long range with a larue mount. You then can take them off without loosing the zero.

buy a short dot.
half scope half red dot.

or if you want to spend some money get an ACOG.

I bought a Millet DMS, short dot and that thing is awesome! zooms in to I think 4 power and is great for whatever you need out to 400 yards or so on a steel plate.

if you want really long range or a prairie dog gun, then get a scope.

or buy one of each and get some LaRue throw lever mounts and you can swap between the two.

DO NOT buy ARMS. they are absolute JUNK.
