I have a favorite place for my number 1 dessert-chocolate chip cheesecake, NY Deli on Hampden. However for pie it's become a little harder. There's a great place in Lakewood off Wads/Girton (near Green Mountain Guns)-Granny Scott's but it's not exactly convenient for me plus I'm thinking for someplace opened later. I'm looking for something a bit closer to Centennial where I can run out and a get slice with a cup of coffee after dinner. Appreciate any recommendations.

You may laugh... But I've always had great luck with pies at Village Inn.

Before covid, I used to go there - just for the pie.

There used to be a Village Inn on Arapahoe near Holly and I won’t laugh because I went there frequently. It closed during the pandemic and is now a dental practice.

Yes the French Silk was great!

The one on Wadsworth just south of 285 was my go-to for breakfast once a week when I still lived in Bailey. No idea if it's even still there. Love their chicken fried steak skillet breakfast.

I think Kneaders has pie and is open fairly late. I've never had pie there though, can't vouch for it. There's one on Arapahoe and Jordan.

Thanks, that's not too far, looks like it's open until 9p, I'll give it a try.

Pizza is pie, pie is better than cake.

Pizza pie cake. Mmmmm...

Oh... With bacon. Real bacon. Not the fake Canuck bacon.

Wednesday, free pie day!

They have limited the pie choices so much that I quit going.

You know... you can make your own pie, which'll likely be far better than anything you can purchase from a shop. The key is to start by making your own crust... frozen shells just don't work, and graham cracker chells are only good for cream pies.

Case in point: this guy I knew who ran a BBQ place in Tidewater occasionally would offer slices of pecan pie made by his wife to regular customers. It wasn't a regular item because the cost was prohibitive. What she did was mix several pounds of ground pecans into the filling... absolutely nobody does that, because who is gonna wanna pay $10 for a slice of pie? Pecans are expensive. Best pie I ever had.

Another example is a pie made from freshly picked raspberries and blackberries... nothing compares to fresh berries... most places use canned pie filling or maybe bulk frozen berries.....

Here's another tip... when making apple pie, don't overspice it, use several types of apple and a few pears, then put turbinado sugar on the top crust.

Homemade pies are best.

The hardest part is making the crust. Chopping up the filling then preheating the oven and setting a timer is nothing. I can't make a proper crust either... you need a rolling pin, marble slab, mixer, mixing bowl, and wax paper before you even get started. I have a mixing bowl and a broken oven. No pie for me.

So today I was able to stop by Granny Scott's for a slice of dutch apple and a cup of coffee. Mmmm, made my day LOL.

Lard is the secret for the flakiest homemade pie crust.

My Grandma used to make the BEST rhubarb pie I've ever had.

Pies are one more item you can make, in the smoker.

I cheat on crusts and use the little Debbie mix with a touch of lard. Works well enough for me. Frozen/refrigerated sucks.

First pie I ever made was pumpkin. An absolute pain in the ass to steam pumpkins to make. I hate making it, others love it.

Oh, mine too! She was the eldest child in a large family, so she was given the honor of dessert maker. And she was good at it.

First time I tried to make a pie, I used Jell-O chocolate pudding (the cook on the stove kind) and a store-bought pie crust. Whipped it up, poured it in, put it in the fridge to chill. When it was cold and setup, we cut some slices and dug in. THAT was when I found out you're supposed to bake those pie crusts.....
