View Full Version : 2 advice requests. Modest safe for humid places and zero turn mower
New place in Oklahoma I figure needs my first safe just to give my guns someplace dry so they don't rust away.
Wife wfh so I'm a little less worried about having the security of a 1500 lb safe, though something better than the $150 thin walked walmart special.
Secondly. I have 5 acres with lots of trees etc. Sounds like I want a zero turn with at least a 54 or 60 inch deck, in the end brand may not matter if I can just find a decent condition used one, but might consider new, though I've ruled out the electrics even though i don't mind them for smaller tools.

Costco or tractor supply has decent safes.
Tractor Supply is where I got mine.

Have you considered a compact tractor, like a JD 1025R? They are amazingly versatile and can be had with a 60" drive-over mower deck. Plus you can get all sorts of other attachments that are incredibly handy around an acreage. Loader, pallet forks, box blade...even a backhoe. There are many choices out there. JD would be at the top of the price spectrum. Some of the imports are very capable and considerably less, though likely not as refined as the Deere.

I'll be getting a kubota or new Holland from my dad at some point which will probably take over in the back. Even those small ones with aggressive field tires would tear up the yard as muddy as it seems to stay. And would be quite slower. So plan to get both a mower and tractor

I dont know anything about the grass/weeds/field foliage in OK but here the wife wore out the zero turn mower in 5 yrs trying to mow approx 6 of our 40 acres. Even our compact works its azz off to handle same acreage with brush hog.
I would second BG recommendation on compact. Turf tires can be mounted to avoid tearing up ground.
Tractor Supply and Murdochs both run good sales on safes a few times a year. I would have purchased from one or the other had I not got a screaming deal from a member here.

Perfect. Sounds like the tractor angle is covered.
Unrelated, but wife first day alone not faring well, snake phobic and she found this in the dog pen with her. Glad we added a gate to the temporary run. Harmless but would hurt and again she's phobic.

How does she feel about ticks and fire ants?
So soggy not seen much sign of them. She knows they're will be ticks. Reminds me need to get the 2 dogs to the vet soon for treatment. Added stress comes from the 3rd being ready to go down soon.

I've seen one tick this year so far on one of my Corgis and it was dead. No fire ants on our 20 acres that I've seen yet, either. Didn't have them at my last place, either.
Was in east TX 2 weeks ago and helped my brother in law swap u joints in his truck. Apparently a tick was attracted to me. Ugh
