I'm guessing not a lot of Bill Maher fans here, and he's an unabashed lefty, but he makes some really good points here with regards to Hollywood's sanctimonious call for gun control:

Exceprt:
"Like every school shooter, our movie heroes are grievance collectors, and when it comes to action movies, there's one story: He was a nice guy, but they pushed him too far, and now it's on,"
The whole segment is worth watching, regardless of what you might think of Maher.

Forgot to add the best line from his rant:
"They [Hollywood] hate it when gun people say 'It takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun' but then they endlessly produce movies with that exact plot."

Maher is a liberal douchebag. But I've noticed in the past few years he seems to be making an effort to at least be objective about some things. Credit where due, I guess...
He must be preparing to run for office.

Possibly. From what I have seen, he seems to be pretty rooted in his political position, which traditionally was left of center. Last few years the left has run to extremism leaving him close to the center. Presenting a coherent and logical point that seems to part company from the dem/left mantra is nothing new for him, just seems to happens more often lately.

It's not that he's being objective. He never was before and he isn't now. However he was and is intellectually honest. That's where his show title, Politically Incorrect, came from: it wasn't that he was centrist, much less right of center, but that he was willing to admit when the left was outright lying or being completely irrational (from what I can tell, he's okay with being a little irrational since he's leftist).
