Don't mean to keep posting news links, but this one is full of lefty hysteria---
First, the headline on the website reads "'Scary discovery' leads police to find modified guns"--instead, what they found were airsoft toys.
Next, it says airsoft guns shoot BBs.
Finally, they say this discovery "helped take these airsoft guns off the streets" and that the Boulder PD praised the officer for his work ridding society of these terrible toys.
I feel sooo much safer now!

31 has a "suggest corrections" box.
Might be a good idea to correct the misinformation. Or is it disinformation?

Yet again, one more reason we're grateful to have left CO .
Not mentioned at all in the Daily Camera as of yet.. If anyone local was going to make this in to a thing I would have expected them to be it.
They have a Facebook and Instagram page, good way to comment on articles like this.

I'm kinda getting tired of thinking that same thing every time I visit here [facepalm]
My heart goes out to you guys still in CO.
Earlier today I watched a couple of Jeeping videos on YouTube and was feeling a little wistful for CO ... thanks for getting me over that :p

"Boulder" says it all.
Those scary airsoft guns can raise a pretty good welt, or even put an eye out. Maybe even break skin if they're really hopped-up.

Well, Boulder and the people of Boulder, including the cops, suck ass
"Police confiscated multiple airsoft guns that were “intentionally modified” to look like real firearms. "
Before police can confiscate something, it has to be illegal.
What laws were broken? What gave police legal authority to take this property?
Isn’t there some law requiring the airsoft guns have orange tips or what have you? It would seem that’s why…

I am not aware of any law in Colorado that requires airsoft to have an orange tip.

Isn?t there some law requiring the airsoft guns have orange tips or what have you? It would seem that?s why?Wise. But not required.
Wise. But not required.
Correct.
But what legal authority (or law) did the PD confiscate them over?
I know it seems silly. But look where that leads. Anything police are "scared" of or don't like they can now take at will?
The reason why they can is even an expensive airsoft gun will be under $1000. These ones were likely a couple hundred. Who is going to get a lawyer and sue over a couple hundred dollars.
And with sovereign immunity, there is no individual accountability for breaking the law.
And who will prosecute police for theft? If I were to go take something illegally that is worth a couple hundred dollars, I would be charged with theft. Why aren't police charged?
Think about where we are, why we had BLM riots and why the defund police movement gained any traction. Episodes like this don't make me want to support police. If police/government will do this to generally affluent Boulderites, what do they do to people even less capable of fighting back in the legal system?

I am not aware of any law in Colorado that requires airsoft to have an orange tip.
Nor am I at the user level. There is however a federal law applying the MANUFACTURERS in the US:
The 1988 ?Federal Toy Gun Law? Restricts manufacturers of firearm imitations. They regulate by requiring them to manufacture a permanent bright orange plug at the tip of every airsoft gun. This is done to distinguish them from real firearms. This would explain why many airsoft weapons consistently have a bright yellow tip.

I suspect the airsoft guns in question were being used for their intimidation factor by the vagrant criminal community, not a responsible owner who modified his own examples for increased authenticity.

So maybe if gun-owning Boulderites paint their flash hiders blaze orange, they can keep their ARs !
