Ayn Rand on Donahue in 1979. The first 15 minutes or so, she talks about the oil crisis and free markets and monopolies.

I was stunned by how little has changed.

The host seems to want government to attempt to control prices.

This crazy old lady smacks him down with rejoinders like, "all monopolies are created by special privilege of government", and "every dictatorship is based on altruism".

If she was alive today, she'd be rolling over in her grave.

Edit- Phil was speaking hypothetically about $2.50 a gallon gasoline.

I love Ayn Rand,

I've read most of her writings, and have made a poem of the first line from her most famous novels.

Petrograd smelt of Carbolic Acid. (We the Living)
It is a sin to write this. (Anthem)
Howard Roarke laughed. (The Fountainhead)
Who is John Galt? (Atlas Shrugged)

Donahue:

You can't prove that God doesn't exist?

Ayn Rand:

I can't prove a negative.

And there in lies the problem. Nothing has changed in 50 years, except that corrupt politicians have become bolder
