Saw the title and expected some story about forgetting your ammo at the house.

Attempted clickbait title to bring in the masses.

What is the orange marker for?

Scoring disc, so the shooter back on the line knows if it was an X, 10, 9, 8, etc…..

That's cool. Always good to help out. I'm sure the help was appreciated. These events that draw people to shooting can't happen without volunteers. I spent two hours at the trap club yesterday and didn't take a shot. Chatted with a few people, pulled some weeds, and took a turn filling a machine. There's a lot more to being part of the shooting community than owning a gun and sending rounds downrange.

Hey, I've done that before down at the NRA range in Raton.

Fair enough.

I always enjoyed pulling and marking targets. The crack of the bullets going overhead always brought me joy.

Tell me you've never worked in the pits (Marines call them "Butts") without telling me. ;)

Ah, yes, I remember those days. "PULL, PASTE, AND HALF MAST ALL TARGETS!" [Beret]

I've worked those very pits and sent a few rounds over them into the berm as well. Sounds like a fun day.

Oh, if anyone knows somebody going into the military, give them this advice: When in Basic Training, never take a step forward when the Drill Sargent Asks for volunteers.
