HAHAHAHAHA. Cognizently, the dates on your username didn't even register!!! I'm an idiot!
The Oakleys I would've never guessed. I use cheap Walnasty glasses.
Not to mention that red disposable camera in one of the pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Yep, I'll have to get around to photo-shopping him out of that picture one of these days it just kind of ruins it for me.
Yes the Flak vest is missing a shoulder, I managed to break the worthless POS

And yes for some reason I was happy with that crap shot group at the time. Hey I hit the paper at what 25 yards with female Corpsman watching just in case we shot ourselves.

Man, I remember those old flak vests. Worthless POS's that wouldn't stop shit and weighted a ton... I'll take the weight, but it better be weight worth humpin around on my sorry carcass. Those were not.
I have a couple of web gear sets like you are wearing in my basement still. They were still issuing the old metal pots when I started out in the AF back in 88. Then K pots, and Level IIIa gear on my 08-09 Iraq deployment. I hated the K pots. You would go prone and the back of the helmet would hit the back of the body armour and push forward over your eyes. The new level IIIa's are cut int he back for prone shooting.
Man, I was AF, but those photos take me back.

Maybe you could just re-release the photo, only this time he'll be holding a non-threatening radio. [Beer] That way you can keep him in the shot and not have a suspicious vacancy.
Looks like the hills of Pendelton...

Yes and if I recall correctly the weapons cleaning area at one of the armories is behind me in this picture.

I was a Marine at the same time. I did my Boot out there but ended up in North Carolina. So I got to have bitch Ridge and mt. mutha-fukker and the sand fleas. Ahhh good times. We took our flaks, cut the bottoms open and removed the plates and put in heavy cardboard. It would last 2-3 weeks and it would need replacement but it sure made them lighter.
We called it duce gear. The h-harness and war belt with 2 tons of crap hanging off of it. Used the same gear all the way through the 1st gulf war.
Imagine 120 degrees in dark green camo. Or better yet, 68 days living in the same pair of MOPP pants and shirt. We slept with the m-88 mask on all night. (or day) I HATE SAND! Your photos brought a lot of memories back! thanks for sharing them! Semper Fi!

looking at tose pics brought back alot of fond memories. I got to experience Mt. Motherfucker and Bitch Ridge in the rain and at night. Then I got to visit wonderous Ft. Sill Ok. (0800) then was the only west coast Marine to get stationed at Camp Lejeune from my class, Echo 2/10 2ndMARDIV.
