Does the unsubscribe button or link at the bottom of spam email actually work or is it a signal to advertisers that it is a good address?

I normally delete without opening anything I don't recognize. Sometimes I will send it to the spam folder, but rarely click unsubscribe for fear of being inundated by many more ads.

What really happens if I click the unsubscribe button?

If it’s legitimate spam, like Primary Arms emailing you the millionth time that “these picks are right on target…” Yes it does work.
Illegitimate spam is Tess asking you to see live nude. Or you can gain a bigger size blah blah blah. I’ve found that those spams are
One big picture that is a hyperlink to something I don’t want to click on. This includes al the fine print and the unsubscribe button. It’s all one big picture.

This, they are required to provide the unsubscribe link and remove your email. But if it?s not a legitimate business, then they obviously won?t care.
