For reasons unknown, Speaker Pelosi is in Asia, pissing off the Chinese.
Why would a legislator act as a diplomat?
President Biden currently has a relapse of covid. He has a wet cough. He has aged considerably since entering office. He seems to be in mental decline and is not going to suddenly get 20 years younger.
After the November elections, President Biden will resign due to health concerns. Vice President Harris moves up and names Nancy Pelosi as the new VP.
That would give Harris an experienced shoulder to lean on.
Pelosi is out of the Speaker job if the House loses it's Democrat majority, but she is still a very powerful person and likely does not want to give up that power. She may be attempting to show that she can act as a diplomat and can easily slide into the VP job.
Biden's legacy is already tarnished. It would be seen as a statesman-like thing to do, resigning because of health concerns. If he sticks around, he is going to be neck deep in problems. The economy is not great. His son's problems will become his as a Republican majority congress will open committees to hamstring his ability to get anything done.
If he were to resign, he could claim he could have turned everything around and delivered the glorious republic we all desire. But he isn't well and the country deserves the strong duo that can devote more time and energy... blah blah, et cetera.
Is this a likely scenario? Maybe. The more I think about it, the more I think it is plausible and makes everyone involved look good. Maybe not good, but a little less scummy upon ousting a sitting President.
