I renewed the tags on my truck 3 weeks before I sold it. Went to check where to go for a refund since it's been a few years since I last sold a vehicle, and the DMV's locations are more specialized than they used to be.
Colorado DMV is no longer refunding registration. Bummer.

3. I sold my car and would like a refund on my registration, how do I do that? (https://dmv.colorado.gov/faqs-registration#collapse-accordion-5916-3)
Unfortunately, county motor vehicle offices do not offer refunds if you sell your vehicle during its annual registration. You can transfer any remaining prorated amount of your registration to a new vehicle at your county office.
Mine is due on 3 vehicles and a trailer. They will wait until I move.
The ticket is cheaper

They just sent my mail renewal in an envelope to somebody else along with theirs. The other person was kind enough to mail me the renewal! I was sweating not getting the renewal.

Just put on some expired temp tags and a Namaste! sticker on the back, no one will notice.

I wasn't aware that was a policy.
I have never heard of anyone asking for their registration fees back after a sale.
Guess I missed out on eight bucks when I sold my '86 Corolla.

I never thought they would refund, only apply towards a new registration.

Heard someone get upset about that today at the Arapaho County DMV in Aurora. Also heard a redneck rant about having to have an appointment for any transactions, and yes it included ?This is Mercia,? and ?COVID wasn?t real? and ?You are racist against whites !?
It was a very short wait and entertaining.

That was the kinder, gentler Colorado that respected taxpayer contributions. There's little fairness or integrity left in government, at every level.

That seems like a very good reason to buy a new truck.
