Statement from Minority Leader Cooke Regarding Senator Priola?s Party Change

DENVER ??Minority Leader John Cooke (R - Greeley)?has issued the following statement regarding Senator Priola?s party change:
?Perhaps we should not be surprised by Senator Priola's announcement today that he is now a Democrat. For the last several sessions he voted with the Democrats and championed their legislative causes. This event will not change the trajectory of this election cycle, nor the outcome of this year's fight for the state senate. As for Senator?Priola, his new district will likely not be happy with this announcement and may explore their options for new representation.?

No matter the situation or circumstances, this is a dick move and a slap in the face of his constituents. Political grandstanding at its best.

I wonder why he did this.

He says it is because January 6th is "not the only existential threat that the Republican Party is choosing to ignore", also citing the "near year-round fire season" and other "human caused climate change" issues that his Republican colleagues "deny the existence of".

It will be interesting to see where the funding comes from for his future campaigns and whether he will be content to remain in Colorado or if he has aspirations for higher office.

His voting record is the most liberal of the Republican legislators.

Has been a RINO all along.

Knows his district is moving left with population growth.

Is a disingenuous public servant.

Would you rather have had him remain a Republican and continue to vote with the Democrats?

This is beneficial to the Colorado GOP. They can run a candidate that will vote more in line with their ideals.

I am still curious about the deals that went down between him and the Democrats. As I said above, looking at his donor list from future campaigns will be interesting.

Unfortunately, the Colorado GOP wouldn't recognize a benefit if it punched them in the nose. I totally expect them to not do anything useful, as usual.
