Hmm; need to cash that check so I can have spending money for the fun show
Might be a way to pass a Sunday.

Gonna try and make it. When I arrive I'll call "CQ AR15" on the 2m simplex call frequency. If you've got an HT, listen and we'll try to meet up!

The road trip from the Springs made the effort worth while. Now; if I was pretty much looking for anything useful there - well; that is a different story. They did have just a few used radio's - nothing that I would consider myself; but I guess my desires are more of a niche or too new for a Ham Fest.
There was about 1/5 tables than the last one I had attended. I believe I saw a few folks that had showed up to the old Ham breakfast group that I went to well before the beer flu.
That was my first hamfest.
It's hard to call the first of anything lame, since it's all new and you have nothing to compare against.
But, it was lame.
I did get a name tag made with my name and call sign.

bradbn4, we should have carpooled...

Yep; I did see one metal pig out of parts...and yes, I wanted it- just because
I have a cleaver at home ;)

check out pikes peak megafest, it's early in the year ish up in Monument. 146.46 FM is busy in the mornings in the Springs, moreso during the week.
The real large Ham Fest use to be in Longmount - I went to one of those well before I got my Ham license it was a really good size.
I have been to the Monument fest one once. Hmm; I did dig up my old hand held radio - I will have to find a copy of chirp. I had hope to find some sort of antenna mount for my truck; but I did not even spot a cig lighter adapter for sale.

This looks like a really impressive radio
so you pick up the gd-88 yet? killer looking screen - icons are somewhat dated
the fm reception did not seem that good on one of the very short review vids I watched.
about 225 and change delivered I guess

Not yet. I still have an Icom IC-91AD I use for handheld. But the list of features on the gd-88 is pretty damn nice!
Where's the friggin' HAM? I mean, WTF? Y'all talkin' geeky stuff, but teasin' us with visions of ham sammiches, ham 'n eggs w/taters, ham roasts, pulled pork ham sammies - all kinds of lucious pig -
But no, you geeks are talkin' RADIO shit??? FFS.....
I guess I didn't miss much then. I'd like to go to one of the local field days one of these days just to get to hang out and talk tech nerd stuff.

I did pick up the GD-88 radio - cool display - I don't like the software that is included - mostly because I never used something other than Chirp to program a radio.
I did get a new replacement batteries for both my 82L(BAOFENG ) and the GD-88 - but after waiting a week I received an "oh - sorry" it be out of stock now on the GD-88 hardware. I picked up a spare set of higher end antennas that will help pull in some of those distant repeaters.

Looking forward to your detailed review!!!!

I'm tempted to get a BaoFeng since my old, purchased-used-in 2010 Yaesu FT-50 doesn't work right (knobs turning the knob for "down" actually makes frequency go up, etc).
But even $35 is a lot to spend on a throwaway. Especially when a new Yaesu HT is under $100 at HRO. The Yaesu might not have as large a frequency range as the BaoFeng but I think it will likely last longer.
