Man, I am damn glad we moved the hell out of Northglenn when we did.
Curious how this one plays out.....

NORTHGLENN, Colo. (KDVR (http://www.kdvr.com/)) ? Two boys were shot and killed when they attempted to get into a resident?s backyard Sunday afternoon, police said.
Police said that around 2 p.m. officers were called to reports of menacing and trespass when they found two juvenile males suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital where they later died.

Sounds like they got what they deserved. DA will probably try to blame the homeowner. The deceased's estate should be levied to pay for fence. Is this too soon?

There is video of the deceased boy family members in link below.

One had a handgun and one had a machete. Traded shots with the homeowner and lost.

Good shoot.

I love a happy ending.
One of the dirtbags families was interviewed and they were saying what a good boy he was and was supposed to be at his girlfriends house. Bitching because the homeowner didn't fire a warning shot yada yada yada.

Something something stupid games....

The boys did this to their families.

I refuse to feel sorry for criminals.

Hopefully that DA makes the right choice and doesn?t file charges against the home owner

"But... all they did was bust through a fence and shoot at the homeowner after burglarizing their neighbor!!!" lol

So going from the article's headline, since when is shooting to kill a homeowner called "trespassing"?

JFC, the media is really effed up...

From my experience in a city, this is the result of generations living on public assistance who have developed a barbaric attitude towards the 'white picket fencers'.

No charges, but I am sure some were definitely explored until proven untenable due to the evidence and law.

Sounds like the deceased were pillars of the community [facepalm]. "Tragedy" isn't quite the description I would use, unless describing the fallout for the homeowner. I am not a big fan of pot, but he clearly has legal right to be growing his own on his property and an expectation that the product will not be stolen by armed thieves.

[Edit to add discussion of implications of armed self defense/home defense while user/grower of cannibis.]

Lots of good detail in linked story...

... and since the deceased are not anti-progressive protestors, like their contract security guard offed at the Capitol, the KUSA 9News headline and story have a much different tone:

Resident won't be charged for killing teens reportedly stealing marijuana

No charges will be filed in the deadly shooting of two teens reportedly stealing marijuana plants from a Northglenn backyard, the DA's office and police said.

No mention that the resident was being shot at by the perps until deeply into the text.

I disagree about the expectation that his crops will not be stolen.

Growing pot outdoors should come with the expectation that it WILL be stolen at some point. No different than if you are brewing beer and have cases of it in your garage. Pot and beer are easy to turn into cash so are prime targets for theft.

The homeowner likely knew this which is why he opened the door holding a .45.

Poor choices were made all around.

Fair enough assessment.

I did have to laugh last year, however, while taking my son out for permit driving time, we explored the back roads of Boulder County near Haystack Mountain north of town. One open field we drove past had pot growing just like it was some boring plot of sorghum. I don't remember if there was even any signage indicating surveillance. There was nothing stopping somebody from helping themselves to however many plants they wanted to grab and throw into the back of a vehicle.

Could have been. My product knowledge in this area is very low.

It may have been hemp.

Often it is. When it first really something the farmers started to grow, saw plenty hippie types stopped on the road checking it out. I think when it is the devils lettuce they have to have some type of security and fence around it.
