Kroger buys Albertsons/ Safeway.
King Doops is the new king of Colorado groceries. They already dominate the landscape. It's Doops and Wal-Mart now, with a few oddballs thrown in like Amazon Whole Foods and Sprouts.
I am afraid the already crappy meat selection will devolve into 100% pre-packaged from outside sources. I am curious which store brands will remain.
Having two retailers dominate the area can result in a catastrophe if there is a major supply chain hiccup.
Yeah, that's bad for everybody. I can't cross the street to the local Safeway when my local King Soopers can't help me.
I'm honestly surprised this is approved by Government.

Whatever happened to anti-trust laws?

Every time I've ever been into a Safeway all their prices were higher than the nearby KS and I didn't notice any difference in quality or variety. So I don't even know why Safeway is still around anyway.

Or, Elvis Lives!
Nope. Elvis died in 1977. The reason people still see him is because he started time traveling sometime before that.

Elvis didn?t die. He want back to his home planet.

I was thinking Mel Brooks.
“Bugger the queen!”
Like Bass Pro bought Cabela's. Like Bushmaster bought Cobb. Like Kmart bought Sears. Good for us? I doubt it.
There are a few items I HAVE to get at Safeway because Kroger doesn't carry them. So much for that, back to Walmart I guess.

When I was still in Colorado, I always shopped King Soopers, hadn't stepped foot in a Safeway for years. Fast forward to my move to Tucson, we have Fry's (Kroger brand), and I go to Safeway or Albertson's exclusively, most of the Fry's are trash down here. Unfortunate indeed.

I'd rather be fishing and hunting.

HEB is the best one out there. Might swing by later to grab some goodies for the griddle.
They actually sell just the brisket point too. My favorite. Kings only sold the flats, and sometimes whole packers

If you're in the Springs, Ranch Foods is an excellent butcher shop. I find myself wanting to spend money in there.

Nothing to worry about. Phil is on the job.
"My department and I will closely monitor and review this proposed merger between Kroger and Albertsons to ensure it does not harm consumers or workers."
Thanks, buddy! You got my vote!

Publix is one of the few things I truly miss from Florida.

One of the local radio stations did a snippet with Hancock about the merger/buy. Hancock said it will be no problem because there are alternative grocery stores for people to shop at. Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and I can't remember what the other one was. Yea, sure, I'm going to do my primary grocery shopping at Whole Foods or 1 of the 2 Trader Joes. Shows how out of touch the idiot is.

I agree with Johnny Ego, Publix is one of the few things I miss from my time in Florida. I also miss Cub Foods from my first stint in Colorado.

My college roommates and I got a nice skinned sheep head from Cub Foods at 80th and Sheridan for our apartment Halloween display in '96 or '97- put it on a sliver platter with candles and fake blood. I am sure the neighborhood parents LOVED it.

I remember Cub Foods because it's claim of lower prices came from the fact that you get to bag your own groceries!
Dad didn't like it because it was non-union and he was in the UAW for 30 years.
Speaking or unions, I am sure the UFCW Local 7 is excited. Even more inconvenience for everyone when they decide to strike.

Doesn't everyone shop at Whole Foods, Trader Joes and Vitamin Cottage? I didn't know other stores existed.

Sprouts.
Local carnicerias can be a good place to grab stuff for a meal or two but obviously don't have the products or prices of Walmart or Kroger.
We have Fred Meyer (Kroger) here. For when you want to buy a sofa when you're getting a gallon of milk. About the only thing I buy at Safeway are cans of S&W Pinquito beans. Most of our groceries are Walmart pickup orders.

A food monopoly should terrify you.
Especially when food warehouses, processing plants, etc are burning down at a staggering rate all over the world...
Nothing to see here. Move along...

When I shopped at Cub Foods, their claim of lower prices was real. We used to take Scouts to Cub and King Soopers to comparison shop the groceries for their camping groceries and there was a very real difference in the shelf prices before you even got to bagging.
I also remember when the local union tried to picket in front of Cub Foods and had to hire people for the picket lines because the actual Cub workers didn't want to join in.
