Any survivors?

Based on the video, I would say zero chance of survivors

Looks like the other plane was a p39 or p63. Sad day.

I was sure the P-63 was behind the B-17 as they came over.... actually lowered my phone trying to figure out what I was seeing...

I used to work avionics, USAF type. I wonder if they had ACAS? When FAA mishap reports comes out it will tell us the whole story.

The morning started with the coolest airshow routine I've seen, Tora Tora Tora. A flight of simulated zeros flew over as air raid sirens went off, and the sound of anti-aircraft guns firing, simulated bomb explosions, etc. Recreating a bit of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Went on for about 10 minutes with the zeros making repeated passes, and finally a few US Planes came up to try to defend.

These planes were all flying a choreographed routine.... There were lots of planes going back and forth, I assumed the ones that looked like near passes were actually much further than they appeared.

Holy hell.

That p-63 looks to have overshot their route compared to the other planes around from what I've seen.

So fucking sad, my heart goes out to the families of the deceased. That B-17 Texas Raiders has been around a long time, it was the first one I ever saw, at an air show in El Reno, OK, in 1980. Some friends were skydiving there, so we were going to the show to watch them. Had NO idea the CAF was doing their Tora Tora Tora show also, it was freakin' incredible! Also saw this B-17 a couple months ago at the airshow in Colorado Springs.

I'm sad now, for many reasons.....

You need to contact the CAF and the FAA.
I have been following this since it happened and your shots are at a different and very clear angle than any other footage I have seen.
Assist with the investigation.

6 aviators were lost, 2 of them retired airline pilots (in the B-17) and an active 777 pilot (in the P-63).
Incredibly costly day to the aviation community.

Yeah, I've got a voicemail in to FAA, and left an email and call for CAF.

I saw several high end camera setups in the area near where I was, so I suspect there is better footage, but I know every view might have some extra clue.

The pilot in the smaller plane could not alter its flight path? Surely he saw the B-17 in front of him. This is truly sad.

Watched a utube video related to this collision. The P-63 had a known issue with visibility due to its cockpit canopy design. From what I have seen in video and pictures the B-17 may have been masked by the P-63's wings and fuselage.
Why we always come to a complete stop at intersections.

No, if you've ever flown in one of these planes anything below you is a giant blind spot. All you see is from the top of the nose on up. They were in a left hand turn, the P63 pilot never saw the B17.

This is me flying second seat in the middle of a barrel roll in the Colling Foundation TF51 Toulouse Nuts..

I agree with the lack of forward vision on the P-63, there is a lot of your own airplane in front of you!

It's horrible news for the warbird families and air show fans, I can't even imagine seeing it in person.

All the best to the families.

Yes, very sad incident. From what I could glean from various footage yesterday, it looked like the P-63 deviated from the established flight path the other fighters were taking. With the B-17 in his blind spot and him in theirs (it looked to me like he came in from behind and above), neither one would have been aware of the other. Tragic.
