Since 1984 Rocky Mountain HD was my preferred dealer. Now that it?s closed and I?m thinking of a new bike I?m looking for recommendations on the remaining shops in the Denver area. I prefer not to deal with Avalanche-it functions more like a car dealer than an enthusiast shop, the sales folks I?ve interacted with aren?t especially knowledgeable nor do most of them seem to ride.

Haven?t dealt with any of the others, thanks for suggestions.

I wonder whatever happened to Tom T that worked there forever...

The Blade, retired years ago. He purchased and runs a sailing business out of B.V.I. Corsairs it is, or was called. Tom? Haven't talked to him in years. I left there back in 90, when we were still on broadway.

"Allegedly" There was some (again allegedly) shady deal between HD corporate and a dealer in the metro area. Not sure of the name, but it reminds me of when snow comes rushing down a mountain side.

H-D corporate has not been shy about phasing out small indy dealers. RMHD was on their chopping block.

My son bought a new Harley in August at Thunder Mountain and seemed happy with his interaction.

Sad that Rocky Mountain was a victim of HD corporate downsizing! Here is a quote from Rocky Mountain....

“We are closing, not by our choice,” “To be politically correct, they (Harley-Davidson) are condensing the market and independent dealers do not fit that mold. They are doing away with family-owned businesses.”

I did business with them in their first shop (before the Broadway one) Tom collected smoking pipes (tobacco ones, not pot) I gathered the ones I had and took them to him. Lot of stories about their rides, especially the toy run. Those were special.

As to who to go to now? Our last shop that we went to was Thunder Mountain. Can't say that I would "highly" recommend them, but they were ---OK---to deal with.

Go with other brands imo. Some of the new stuff is interesting but very different. Abysmal price for what you get new. Secondary market is where it's at if you want to stay HD.

I started riding at 12, just turned 66. I raced flat track & moto-x through high school. I’ve owned bikes from most brands in these years (if memory serves Indian, Ducati, Bultaco, Husky and KTM are the ones I never did that come to mind-hell I had a Hodaka 125 haha). Right now the Road King Special appeals to me more than any other model from any other manufacturer. Kinda like why I prefer a 1911 over any other type of pistol lol-started shooting and riding at the same age.

I wonder what happened to the XR750 RHMD kept on display, got to ride one in ‘72 for a lap.
