View Full Version : Why do they take sooo long
I feel like I have been waiting an eternity for my most recent NFA and holy crap it just seems like the ATF takes as much time as they please...I think I am right at about 4 months right now. that is beyond ridiculous IMO.

I hear ya. I have been waiting for my C&R license for 8 weeks now. They charged my credit card within days of receiving my application with no problem.
A few years back it took 9-12 months. Be thankful they are inside 6 months.

deduct the holiday schedule the feds are on and you're close to a Long 3 months.
i had one on sitting on a desk waiting for a signature and they pullled the investigator off for some other "emergency" OOPS.. they located my paperwork, waiting for a signature 4.5 months later. then they wanted to redo it because someone else was handling it. my you're FUCKING KIDDING ME received an Excuse me?? reply. i told the guy hey man i just received a tax stamp 2 months prior to this one. he's like ok you're good to go.
If you lost paperwork they sent you, come 10 business days KNOCK KNOCK......

Each investigator seems to have their own schedule.
Sandra Snook seems to do most of my paperwork.
Form 2 I get back in 2 weeks.
Form 3 3-4 weeks.
Form 4 4-5 months.
But it's been consistent for the past two years.
I transferred some suppressors to another dealer. the Form 3 took 4 weeks. The end customer told me he had his Form 4 back in 3. Don't know who his investigator was.

Just getting ready to send mine, was told they are coming back in 8-10 weeks at Jensens, and that was through the holidays.

What are the differences of the Form 1,2,3? Is a suppressor always on a Form 3? What decides what form it's on?
A form 1 is something you are doing yourself. If you are building a suppressor, making an SBS or SBR then you fill out a form 1.
That's all I'm confident enough to comment on.
Form 1 is to make and register the firearm. $200 Tax
Form 3 is the transfer of NFA items between dealers
Form 4 is to Transfer ownership of a NFA registered item $200 Tax
in a nutshell......
Wait times are variable. I'm still waiting on a form 1 I submitted 6 months ago.
