Already -33? chill factor out here.
Over forty degree temp drop less than one hour.
I grew up in Minnesota, things are just getting exciting. Imagine this for the entire month of January and February.

I dropped my boys off to hunt whitetails. By the time I got back home about 2 miles later it dropped about 30 degrees. They made a beeline back to the house. They have shot 3 so far, 2 more to go before the 1st.

My friend Kate lives in Cordova and it's downright balmy there right now, 34F with a low of 27F and a dusting of snow overnight.
Currently we have -1F with 8 inches of fresh snow. Forecast to hit -9F overnight. I think there's a temperature inversion because it's colder in Boulder.

Cordova is coastal and a bit south. I saw -21 yesterday, but today got to single digits…..all pretty normal for here. I guess my point is you guys have this for a couple days, this is 4-6 months for us.

I know and have been in Tanaina, you're in a freezer up there. Cordova is more like the Washington coast. If I lived in Tanaina I'd want a lot more insulation than is in our little mountain cabin.
I don?t mind the temperatures but I didn?t know we were supposed to be getting snow with it so I?m disappointed.

I stopped at King Soopers yesterday on the way home from work. Some chick in yoga pants, zip hoodie and crocs said “I didn’t think it was going to get this cold”.
Dumbass
And then there was an older guy in sweatshirt, shorts and flip flops leaving and makes the astute observation ”It got cold”.

I had a weird dream that my company was trying to send me to Antarctica. Reflecting back on it, maybe I should have accepted. Seems it might be a little warmer there right now.

My grandparents lived in Cutbank, MT for over 30 years. It's about 40 miles south of the border. Coldest place in the continental US. Regularly -70 with wind-chill. Of course they were nuts. In his "retirement" he split the year with another Dr in Barrow, AK, the most northern point inhabited by man.

Wind chill is made up sensationalistic nonsense.
It a supposed calculation of how cold it "feels" to exposed skin.
Feels to whom? Enos the Eskimo is going to feel differently in a cool breeze than Jose from Guatemala.
Neither is going to walk around naked in subzero weather.
My thermometer currently shows -4. That's impressively cold for Denver without the "feels like" hype.

I was shooting sporting clays at Kiowa at 2:30 yesterday with a light jacket that I almost took off. By dinner it was neg 5. Nuts.
There's a weather station at Winter Park currently reading -14deg and clocking 100mph gusts. Yuck.

Wind chill is primarily focused on EXPOSED skin. If you have adequate clothing, it's far less relevant. That being said, it's darn cold out there.

Maybe in a technical manner. Having spent enough days outside on jobsites in a variety of weather, wind will suck the heat out of whatever you are wearing and make for a miserable day.

Sure. I suppose you?ll tell me it?s summer in Australia too and that the earth is round. Heathen.
I know what you guys are talking about, it's absolutely frigid out here, 30 degrees and sunny.

I work with a bunch of people in Houston and Midland, TX. They were all out of sorts about the the weather forecast. The rest of us are in Colorado or Casper, WY and we just laughed at them.
That said, I've been in Midland during winter weather and it's a different beast because the ice is much worse and no one knows how to handle it. We had to drive to El Paso to catch flights home because that was the nearest airport still open.

I was working in the Pecos/Fort Stockton area about 10 years ago when it didn't get above 11 degrees for 3 days- everything froze.

No excuse for that kind of crap
Got the unpowered animal sheds covered pretty decent. Side by side "rooms", chicken water isn't freezing. Donkey/goats is. Not sure if just smaller pan I had for them vs actually getting more breeze in there. Been giving hot mash and offering warm water every 6 hours or so. Hope one last round at 10pm works thru 1am, but think temp is supposed to stay stable at like 2-4degree's. Not quite the warm winter I was hoping for out here. (Fine if I was still in CO streets just work commuting, here little trickier with old farm house of questionable insulation, and taking care of animals, and road crews that have more limited capabilities. My work was actually shutdown, waiting to see what they do tommorow as I'd think conditions near the same.

Truckloads of bucked firewood curing now

Hoodies and shorts
Its 74 outside right now
So, remote started my truck today and after a couple of minutes it shut off. Weird. Whatever. Got in and started it and left the house and noticed I had a check engine light. Pulled a code P0125 out of it which essentially has something to do with low coolant temperature and the temperature not coming up quick enough. I just chuckled as I cleared the code. I?m guessing it will remedy itself by tomorrow.
It?s still cold outside boys and girls.

Found out today that all our Dept. CDL bucket trucks and attenuator trucks (total of 4) got diesel anti gel treated before the Coldageddon , but the idget tasked with the job, (pronounced ?yob?) didn?t run the vehicles to get the additive distributed throughout the fuel system. Now all 4 are gelled up in the fuel lines, filters and injectors.
Edit, before you ask…. Yes, the trucks were plugged in, and the cords tested before And this morning when the trucks wouldn’t run.
On Thursday morning, I recorded -22 degrees at the house, with -18 degrees at the NOAA weather station upstream a mile.
Fun working the snow thrower and the plow. Squeaky shards of hard dry snow made for minimal slippage.

I took an unplanned snow day Thursday as the wind blew the valley created by clearing last weeks snow drifts, full of drifts.
The poor old tractor sitting out in the cold and wind told me to piss off when I asked it to help. Knew I should have parked it out of the wind but had a case of hub after clearing the storm last week.
UPS guy saved the day when blasted thru the 30' wide 2' deep drift to deliver our new smoker. We had just enough room to get him turned around and up to speed to blast thru the other way. I just had to spend couple hours knocking down the center ridge and good to go.
Was a little worried when he honked his horn and got on the throttle coming down our driveway but snowpacked drift was no match for the 20,000lb beast at 30mph and the frozen piles on each side kept him in the middle and out of the field. The snow cloud was cool and would have made a good pic.

Yep, wait till there is hundred million vehicles that need to be charged added to the already over taxed system.

Not sure how a senior citizen taking a tropical vacation is causing you pain.
As far as your pills, any high school kid can score some oxycodone if he wants it so maybe just hang out in a van outside a school or something?

The point is that people are dying in New York and their President is off to a warm place. Disabled veterans get the same treatment. We are basically told to go pound sand. On a warm beach...
What do expect them to do at that level? Take a tour and campaign on thier suffering?
We don't have a micromanager-in-chief.
I personally hate when they show up at disasters to show they care. When in reality thier caring is detrimental to the effort because of the added security.

I am more disturbed by the fact that the very media that made all kinds of hay over Ted Cruz going on a preplanned vacation (and thereby lessening the load on Texas' energy infrastructure) during their regional storm is utterly silent about Biden leaving for a warm beach when half the country is socked in. As a Senator, the only thing Cruz could have done for Texas was interfere -- something he wisely did NOT do. Biden in theory could be coordinating resources to help the afflicted regions. In theory. In all practicality, we'd be better off if he took Harris with him.

I agree.
Is the President supposed to grab a shovel and start digging?
There are agencies full of people that are supposed to manage problems like that. I doubt the President would be doing anything differently regardless of his location. I have been to the Virgin Islands. They have phones.
