View Full Version : The High Road is "Not a Humor Site"

There is a thread "The life of a 442". A guy asking questions about a Smith 442.
I typed in, "I thought this was a thread about Oldsmobiles."
I received a notice that my post was deleted because, "This is not a humor site".
I have been on a lot of forums and posted a lot of nonsense, as many of you can attest.
This is the first time I have been censored for making a lame joke.
I have no idea what to think. I am vacillating between astonishment and anger.
It has to be a mistake. I wasn't insulting or racist or profane.
If they are serious about not allowing humor, even my lame attempts at it, I fear for the future of our country.

I am an almost 20 year THR member. It has definitely changed, and not for the better. It's now filled with many self-annoited "experts" who demand respect and concurrence with their viewpoints, both in the membership and on MOD staff. Free discussion and dissenting opinions are not welcome.

I post about space aliens and it gets deleted. I was truly hoping someone would post evidence of them. Maybe add to my data base? I am not impressed by Elon Musk putting a Tesla into orbit! The other forum site has their own section.

Every mod has a different level of tolerance for out-of-context remarks.
One of the mods emailed me that response.

I found that out several times. I have asked a lot of reloading questions, thinking a national audience would give me a broader range of hopefully correct answers.
A lot of guys don't want to help and talk shit about my not knowing as much as they do.
Reminds me of asking here if I need to trim 9mm brass.
Funny. I guess I?ve got to side with you. I?ve owned at least two 442 j-frames but when I saw 442 above my mind immediately went to Oldsmobile. Maybe because my first car was a 1970 Cutlass 442?

Two mods have replied to me. Not the jerkoff that deleted it.
Your remark about a vehicle was humorous but irrelevant to the conversation. That is why it was deleted. You were not penalized (warned/spanked) for it.
The Moderator Kleanbore deleted your post. You should have seen his name in the communication.
I assume he thought the post was off topic.
I did not receive any communication from anyone. They also took down all my posts questioning it.
I have shifted from astonishment to anger. It's silly, I know. But it was nothing worthy of sending down the memory hole.
455- please go on the site and post the same thing. Let's see what Kleanbore does.
Haven?t been to THR in years. I think after the site was sold (stolen?) it changed and started taking a different tone. That was years ago.
It?s sad though. No humor. And it sounds like not helpful but just a lot of $hit posting.

The High Road used to have very good survival information. Lots of stories of true life experiences! It was more than a firearm site, it had very useful information of all aspects of life. I was never a member. It was a really good read.

Kleanbore and I have had it out several times in the past. I actually had to contact other MODs about his conduct. For an elderly guy essentially confined to a walker, he has seemed pretty opinionated about what other people do for defense. Recently, he has seemed less combative, and actually like one of my posts, so who knows...

I have learned a lot there and will continue to read the site. There are a lot of very knowledgeable guys on there.
Like any internet source, the is a lot of chaff in the wheat. I have a thick skin so I don't care about being told I am a dumbass. Because I certainly am, in many things. As many of my post here will attest. That's why I keep asking questions, so one day I can be the sage.
What got my back hair all bristled was this jackass saying it is not a humor site. That seems very a very odd reason to delete my post.
I reposted the same tired joke for the third time. It has been up for an hour. I haven't heard from Kleanbore despite sending him a message asking him to explain his actions. Maybe he was having a bad day. Perhaps his mother was crushed by an errant Oldsmobile on Christmas Eve. I have no way of knowing, nor do I care.
Stupid, innocent jokes are my way of attempting to inject a bit of levity into otherwise mundane conversations.
Once those interactions start getting shoved down the memory hole, we are doomed.

Well that is just stupid, you idiot. Tell your Mommy to tie your shoes tighter so there is modicum of blood that may feed your feeble peabrain.
I say trim all your brass the first time you load it. That way you eliminate one variable. Consistency is the key to accuracy. Or something like that.
I first found this site in '08, asking about magazine legality as I pondered my first AR purchase. Most guys here have been very helpful.
While not having met many of them, I do like most of them- or at least their online personas.
Many may have groaned at my lousy attempts at humor, but not one of them has ever asked for a ban or deletion.
Used to go there regularly. Guess I'm not missing anything.
"This is not a humor site", seriously? Did Veriscope buy the site?

The joke was kinda funny and its a drag they cant take a joke.
I would caution about reposting something a mod has deleted, even if he is being unreasonable.
Every site has its own messed up stuff.
Just remind him about this thing called the first amendment and call him a nazi. See how he likes that. And make sure you do it in a thread where it?s appropriate so he won?t delete it.

THR is a humor site.
It’s always been a joke IMO.

As a charter member of THR (when it formed out of the ashes of TFL ... which then a couple years later sprang back to life), I haven't been active over there in years.
It has truly become Fuddland and when I do go over there its to read and post in the subforum we're not supposed to talk about. Side note its also the worst site for banning ExpressVPN IP addresses, which makes it double-plus annoying since I'm not shutting off my VPN for anyone.

I used to frequent a lot of different sites, THR and Frugal Squirrel to name a couple, they all have changed and not for the better, I think they have been infiltrated by the same virus that is spreading to free states turning them purple
Your reply wasnt an attempt at humor. It was showing the uptight mods the thread title was inadequate.
Haven't been there in more than 10 years as a byproduct of the warrifles forum meltdown.

I think we need to ban Memphis for his poor quality jokes. After all this IS a humor sight!
All forums have changed over the years, most not for the better.

I've been a member there for 15 years or so. That's where I found this forum. I've noticed things seem to go in cycles at THR. There seemed to be a big shift when No Techtyranny started up. I wonder if part of that was an effort to drive members to the other site.

When I lived in Florida I spent a little time on Florida Shooter's Network. A good site with lots of personalities. Their unofficial motto was, "FSN- We Know Drama!" I think they even had some tee-shirts printed up.
Since the gist of this thread is about someone getting scolded for posting off topic I thought I would prove what an awesome community this is by sharing something here.
Went to Walmart this evening to pick up some groceries. Got to the checkout with my cart to pay and then realized they no longer provide bags. I think if my wife hadn?t been with me I might have just left the cart and walked out. But, I guess if it saves just one sea turtle then it?s worth it.
One sea turtle?!? Brother, you just saved all of the starving polar bears and pygmys. Remember how much better the world got when we stopped using soda straws for about 2 months?

This is just Mr. Waltons way of offering you to take home one of his finest shopping carts.
I had a whole thread deleted during the pandemic.
During the ammo shortage..it was 40 vs 9mm when all you can buy is FMJ bullets or something like that.
MOD flipped out about not another caliber war thread.
40 was proclaimed dead and ammo was limited so I figured it would be relevant.
Don't start a thread that involves bears in anyway either.
Wait a minute....that might have been here

I received several emails from the staff over there. It boils down to "this could have been handled better" and "we are reviewing our moderator policies".
Which obviously means nothing but I feel slightly mollified.
I would caution about reposting something a mod has deleted, even if he is being unreasonable.
Why? What is he going to do? Beat me up and rape my dog?
At worst I get banned from the site. That is no great loss, especially considering I can sign up under 100 different names and REALLY stir the pot.

I think we take it step further and Ban The Internet!
Go back to the good old days of unbiased information from the likes of Dan Rather and the New York Times.
Hear ye, Hear ye, read all about it!

That usually doesnt work as well as most folks think.
Caution was only if you care about the ability to post there. If your only interested in being disruptive rather than participating in the discussion then by all means, have at it.

i'll be that guy. Your post was stupid. Your reaction to the post being moderated was even more stupid. Though, the excuse that THR isn't a "humor site" isn't applicable because your post wasn't funny.

Boy, you sure told me!
Thanks for pointing out the errors in my ways, and doing it so articulately.
With that attitude, you'd fit right in as mod over there.

Is the job open? Maybe you could give me a reference. "I was whining like a 3 year old on another site about your humorless and heavy-handed moderation, and someone called me out on it. I think he'd be a good fit..."
Just know--apparently there, and definitely here, not everyone enjoys your schtick.

I left them years ago. Apparently, the "High" road is a little to high for my neck surgery to allow me to raise my nose. Whenever I see the name of that forum, I think, "I'm glad I don't miss them, at all". I really figure, I'm better without them, than they are without me. And, I could not care less if they don't agree.
For many years, I didn't really know what "hoity-toity" meant. Now I do. And I don't need it.
