I posted this on the Russian Mosin Nagant forums, but they seem to be pretty dead over there (from a posting standpoint, I mean).

I was gifted this 1937 Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 Izhevsk back when they were $100 at the local Big 5 about a decade ago, just now getting around to getting it out and learning about it. It's still covered in cosmoline.

What I think I know so far based upon the great guide linked in the sticky above: Round low wall receiver, red letter, "Forced Matching" serials, pre-WWII sling slots, refurb, ugly import mark, machined spring band, plain (not grooved) stock, split band. 1937 seems to be somewhat low production for Izhevsk at 72k vs. 300k+ for Tula.

Having said all that, what should I expect value wise these days? Anything else I should know about this?

Of course, this thread would be worthless without pics, so here she is!

Pre war run of the mill moisin nothing uncommon with it. Red numbers done probably by the importer, never done at arsenal or refurb. Its a refurbished rifle so it was gone through and worn parts replaced. can fetch anywhere from $300 to $600 depending on buyer.

Yup thats a fact. Value on guns will never go down, unlike everything else thats based on market shares.
