New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced Thursday that she would not seek re-election and will be stepping down next month.

"I'm leaving, because with such a privileged role comes responsibility," she said. "The responsibility to know when you are the right person to lead and also when you are not. I know what this job takes. And I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice. It's that simple."

I have no idea about her politics but respect her for stepping down this way.

In the brief blurb I heard on the way in to work today, she seemed calm, cool and measured.

The news people went on to say she has helped guide the country through xyz crisis...

Anyway, just seems like stepping out while on top.

Her politics are far left by American standards.

She banned most guns and set up a strict licensing scheme for everything remaining. She implemented one of the most stringent COVID lockdowns in the world. She was President of the International Union of Socialist Youth.

I too respect her willingness to walk away from the job. I wish more American politicians had the same integrity.

Most don't so we need term limits.
