View Full Version : New Chick-fil-A Cauliflower Sandwich!
Yes! Breaded Cauliflower on a bun! It's going to be tested this Monday in three areas of the US, someplace in North Carolina, someplace in South Carolina and right here in Denver!
Just wonder if anyone else is going to try it!

I've always loved cauliflower and it's the new potato in low-carb Keto diets. But breaded? That's a big NO!

I actually like the cauliflower pizza crusts as a low-carb sub for bread crust. But I don't know about a sandwich...not sure that's appealing enough to pay for without knowing if it's any good. Then again, Chick-fil-A makes some pretty good stuff for a fast food joint.

Spice cake is awesome. Carrot cake is for masochists and people in war zones with sugar rationing. It is a cake full of lies for people who can't enjoy nice things and like to spoil the ends of movies. Carrots belong in salads, stews, and wisecracking rabbits. They belong in cake like Jeffrey Epstien belonged at girl scout camp. Carrot cake is an abomination that should be stricken from the earth, like snakes, spiders, politicians, and lawyers. Try a spice cake without carrots next time, and lament the years of needless suffering you have inflicted on your soul.

Fried stuff is good. Zucchini = Meh. Fired zucchini = Yum.
Fried mushrooms.
Tempura veggies.
Fried okra.
Onion rings.
Even fried green tomatoes.
I may give a fried cauliflower sandwich a try. It's no substitute for fried chicken, but it may be good as something in addition to fried chicken.

Off topic, but this subject appeared in a documentary I recently watched.
You just never know what will change over time.
MSG (monosodium glutamate) is found in all types of food, from Asian cuisine to packaged chips.
There's a popular misconception that MSG is particularly bad for health.
The FDA and other expert organizations generally regard MSG as safe in moderation. Jan 20, 2023
Back on topic - no Chic-fil-A test market in the Middle Florida Keys so I will not get the opportunity to try.

So am I the only one who doesn?t fully understand the allure of chick-fil-a? Not sure I?ve ever seen one without two dozen vehicles or more in the drive through line. Except on a Sunday of course.

They also say that vaccines are safe and exposure to glyphosate is safe, too. What they are "experts" at is promoting their agenda

Carrot cake is good, especially with cream cheese icing. I've had mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes, and it was good. I'd try a bite of a cauliflower burger, but no way I'd order it over chicken. that's crazy talk.

With chicken gravy, it tastes just like chicken. Might be good when on a date with a vegatron. MSG used to trigger migraines, I cut way back on Asian takeout. Nutritional medicine wise, it probably is very good for you. The chicky filet around here always has a line of cars waiting. Fthat.
Flash fried, with the right combination of spices, fried cauliflower isn't bad... but chicken will always be better. Just like a marinated portabello cap flame broiled and put on a bun isn't bad... but I'd rather have a burger. Good to have options I guess.

Hey, Chick-fil-A. I have a better idea. Put a deep fried cauliflower patty (puck? Disk? Whatever) on top of the chicken in your chicken sandwich. Veggies are a compliment to meat. Not a substitute.
Smash burger puts a deep fried, cheese stuffed portobello on top of one of their burgers and it's awesome.

My trauma with carrot cake stems from childhood. My own beloved mother made a beautiful cake that looked so tasty. But then I bit into it and discovered it was full of carrots. This sort of parental deception does lasting damage to a young child; it's like telling your kids you are taking them to Disney when you're really taking them to the dentist. The lie should leave a bad taste in your mouth, just like the carrots.
Now I make an awesome apple spice cake, and a ginger cake that will cause atheists and heathens to praise Jesus. But no carrot cake for me, because I have integrity.

Wait, it was full of actual carrots? Not those little shaved specks of carrots? I love carrots, and carrot cake - but that sounds like a horrible mistake.
Like the time I tried to thicken venison stew with flour - but grabbed the container of powdered sugar by mistake. Or the time I learned the hard way that those store-bought dough pie shells have to be baked first. Those two STILL give me the willies.....

It touched me on the taste buds.
Look, I get it. Some of you are from a time when they put ham and lima beans in green jello and served it as an entree. The damage is done, and perhaps it went on long enough that it's absence now feels like a loss. But they have made tremendous strides in therapy these days, and you, too, deserve to feel love. And not that false, stringy, lie that Big Carrot has been trying to fool you with that this time will really be different.
Zucchini bread, soda bread, any type of pie or cake I’m there with a good cup of coffee or a cold glass of real milk. I sure do miss the small towns where every week there was a bake sale to raise money for something or someone. Those gals knew how to cook and bake.

To be perfectly fair, I've had bad carrot cake.
Needs to be made from scratch, never a boxed mix, and it cannot be dry and crumbly.

I like to cook and as such, I collect recipes.
Yesterday I saw a recipe for "Buffalo Cauliflower". I decided to pass on that recipe. If I want "buffalo" anything I think I'll just stick with chicken.
As to Chick Fil A, same thing goes, I'll just stick with chicken.
Now, as far as carrot cake goes.... I enjoy a GOOD carrot cake (Safeway makes the best I've had). JohnnyEgo, I get the fact that you have issues with it as there are many foods I just won't touch. But, it's still fun to razz you about it (all in good fun brother, all in good fun).

I only have issue with foods that taste terrible for no good reason, and foods that LIE!!!!
I have a thick skin and a 'quirky' sense of humor, so I was not bothered by any of it at all, and I may have even been having just a bit of hyperbolic fun myself, though only a little bit, because carrots do actually suck. I also appreciate my new title. I would have accepted 'Rages Against the Carrot Machine' as well, but I suspect it was too long to fit.
Also, we all thought Ray was lightly coated orange because of Cheetoh dust, but now I suspect it's really the cumulative effect of years of hard carrot consumption.

Uncle Roger would tell you MSG = Make Shit Good. The health scares from the 70s and 80s were from idiot hypochondriacs who just wanted to blame SOMEthing for their claimed symptoms. I'm not aware of ANY data or evidence indicating MSG causes bad reactions.

I'll take that carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, heavy on the cream cheese frosting, substitute red velvet for that carrot shit.
Did anyone try it yet? I'd happily try one, just to see if i like it... i don't get what all the fuss is about. If you like the taste of something, eat it. If you don't, then don't eat it. That said, in general, I don't feel like i've eaten a meal if there isn't meat involved so am unlikely to "prefer" this derivative, but i'd gladly try it.

people act like vegetarians are out to convert them, but there is no greater collection of hang-wringing ninnies than a carnivore presented with a plant alternative to what they're used to. Exhibit A is this thread

Chick-fil-A says right on their menu that the cauliflower sandwich is not intended to be a vegetarian option.
It's just another (more expensive) option than their standard chicken, likely fried in the very same oil.
Like I said before, veggies aren't great, but deep fried veggies are good-to-go.
I'll get one this week and report back to the group so everyone can move back from the edge of their seats.

Alright boys and girls. I ran out and got one. Here it is. It's an actual slice of cauliflower deep fried. Not a patty or some sort of shaped cauliflower mash. Actual cauliflower.
The sandwich is tiny and weighs almost nothing. Doesn't feel like much food. It tastes ok, mostly like deep fried breading but the cauliflower is slightly bitter and has a few tough stem parts. Needs hot sauce. It's not filling.
Would I get again? Hard nope. It's more expensive and spicy chicken is infinitely better.
I almost wonder if this is their way to test the water for when the WTO makes it harder to get actual meat...if the WTO has it their way we'll all be eating veggies and bugs. Based on this sandwich, that's going to suck hard.

Thanks for being the guinea pig. This is exactly what I thought it would be-- absolute crap food. Nasty grease permeating a bad carb overload.
As mentioned, I love cauliflower and we'll often have half a jumbo cauliflower in a meal, lightly steamed. The chic-fil-a thing is like two bites. Fast food is a health crisis in America.

Their drive through lines may be long, but they move fast. They have a very organized and efficient system. Also, I've only been greeted by friendly staff who seem to enjoy their jobs. Not like the zombies that work at other places.
Tried it, wasn't bad at all. But didn't fill the belly like the chicken sammiches do.
For being more expensive i wouldn't make this my chik fil a go to sammie. Does give them another option for vegetarians and another option instead of fish for the Lent season.
