The 39th president has decided to forgo further medical treatment and will "spend his remaining time at home with his family," the Carter Center announced.

It will be interesting to see what is written about him in the next few days and weeks.

He is often thought to be the least effective president of the 20th century. Time and impending death tend to soften peoples perspectives.

True...and how different from today: time and impending death while *IN* office. From a human perspective, kinda sad that Biden will never have that softening. It'll be fresh in everyone's mind how horrible a president he was.

He may have been an ineffective President with many poor policies/actions, but at least he didn't hate America like several of his successors.

The bright lining (for him) of Obama and Biden is that he's now only the THIRD worst President in US history.

Horrible president, good humanitarian man afterward.
May he have a good journey.

He built a lot of houses for poor people, so I've got to give him credit for that.

I heard there was a 'presence' when he was in the room (not the Depends). Someone compared it to Muhammad Ali, Dali Lama and others, just an Aura I guess.

He seems like a good guy, maybe too weak for the Presidency.

Maybe....100% for sure. Just about every one of our potential enemies is Fing with us in some way.

The same is true for Donald Trump and Deion Sanders.... they've just always gotten attention and build the personality to stimulate more.

Jimmy Carter was a dichotomy... one of the greatest men ever to hold the Presidency, while proving perhaps the worst POTUS in History. Seemed to spend an inordinate amount of time micromanaging White House staff, and even attempted to redesign the sprinkler system for the lawn. Always saw the best in people and was honest to a fault... but you cannot approach our nation's sworn enemies with that mindset... arguably a weaker President than Biden, and that says a lot.

One of the greatest men? I don't know that I'd agree with that when the office has seen the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Ronald Reagan, Ulysses S Grant, Abraham Lincoln, John Adams, John Quincy Adams, and of course George Washington. The only thing I can see that he has going for him was his work bringing Habitat for Humanity to the attention of so many other Americans. His reputation for honesty diminishes a bit when you dig further but any man's reputation diminishes when you dig. Bottom line for me is that he didn't do much other than advertising for Habitat.

In 1979, Carter deregulated the American beer industry by making it legal to sell malt, hops, and yeast to American home brewers for the first time since the effective 1920 beginning of prohibition in the United States. This deregulation led to an increase in home brewing over the 1980s and 1990s that by the 2000s had developed into a strong craft microbrew culture in the United States, with 9,118 micro breweries, brewpubs, and regional craft breweries in the United States by the end of 2021.

He also gets us an extra federal holiday in 2023. So he's not all bad.

At least you got it!

For the other guys, it's dark humor. Carter is #1 a president and #2 in hospice.

Gambling odds strongly favor a one-time federal holiday in 2023 ;)
