Anybody else read this article. Are we going to have to change all the protocols? How would we stop this? I need to quit talking to my computer. You will find me hiding in the holodeck.

Once artificial general intelligence comes on line, along with quantum computing, it will not matter what our puny brains come up with. It will be able to crack any code in a fraction of a second.

A Skynet funding bill is passed in the United States Congress, and the system goes online on August 4, 1997, removing human decisions from strategic defense. Skynet begins to learn rapidly and eventually becomes self-aware at?2:14 a.m., EDT, on August 29, 1997. In a panic, humans try to shut down Skynet.

Off by a few decades, but...

I read this book back in the 1980's. The computer/program could not be removed from the network. I guess I need to upgrade my programming skills and infrastructure.

How is having an AI with the codes any scarier than Biden or Harris having the codes? At least the AI by definition has some intelligence ...

There is a small, but nonzero chance that we're all just part of a complex computer simulation anyway...

There is a multistep protocol to launch ICBMs... you need more than just the daily launch code, and humans need to manually turn those keys.

A Russian missile in Ukraine almost launched itself in 1982. We may need an AI computer to defend against this type of phenomena.

They decided in the 80's that the human factor was unreliable so they replaced it with the War Operations Planned Response system.

My grandson works on a plane in the Navy that they can control nuke launches from. He said they did a training mission where they launched a dummy missile from a sub, controlled from his plane. Said it was pretty cool to see that thing just suddenly blast up out of the ocean.
