Anybody play around with AI art using midjourney? It's freaking crazy. Enter a simple sentence, bada big, bada boom, it spits out original art a minute later.
Based on what you ask it for, it can be amazingly detailed. You can select to resize or refine the art it kicks back to change minor details or you can ask it to redo it completely if you were hoping for a different style.
This AI stuff is getting wild.
Here are a few that it generated for me my first few attempts. Takes literally a minute or two.
The two of the soldier are variations of the same request, just as an example of how very different it can interpret what you want. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230228/cd1f7a8e6808fe9e3f2afab8c9651df7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230228/6ba8ffb51270ea954bb19554dd73853d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230228/597f5a56fc7fc34c70853dc995ad62e7.jpg

Can you draw me a fantasy space girl that owns her own planet? She is a blonde...and I drive a starship!

That's pretty interesting. I've never even heard of it.
this piqued my interest so I googled what it was - in case anyone else wants to explore. This is a good and simple walk through of how to get started https://www.howtogeek.com/823337/how-to-create-synthetic-ai-art-with-midjourney/
I just did /imagine rocky mountain stream with aspens, tranquility and it produced these 4 samples. Pretty cool.

I think graphic designers should be worried. There are folks using this to create amazing logos, website landing pages, merchandise graphics, etc. For $10/month you can get dozens and dozens of 'proposals' almost instantly for anything you need.

93120Play with the upscale options. It will put a huge amount of detail into whichever options you like best.

Went down that rabbit hole for way too long.
Could not fine tune what I wanted, but it is an interesting concept.
Do graphic artists need to fear losing their livelihood?

Soon movie stars will be obsolete. AI movies where Alex Baldwin will not be able to kill hot blondes. Academy awards won by a 12 year with a computer. Trips to the moon. Penal colonies on Mars. XXX holodeck anybody?

Do graphic artists need to fear losing their livelihood?I think that's the biggest risk. Painters and photographers don't need to worry too much because, like you said, the AI is hard to find tune.
But I've been watching the Discord threads and the AI graphic design stuff looks on point, logos and business marketing stuff. This is way cheaper and quicker than paying a graphic designer. I just don't know if it has the flexibility to produce the required high res file types used in that market.

The rabbit hole goes deep. Here's a European movie poster of a Garfield movie starring Nicholas Cage as Jon Arbuckle for everyone to contemplate.

I simply asked it to /imagine a woman.
Wanted to see if it'd be as confused by gender as so many lefties.
No confusion there. Even the robots know what a woman is. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230228/4c8683ea49ff667ea30ea7a45dec3418.jpg

Well there's no confusion about gender, that's for sure, but perhaps a little confusion stemming from her looking more like a 15-16 year old girl than a full grown woman.

It doesn't do guns well I noticed.
The gun is super weird and his thumb appears to be a gun too. This is the best I got after multiple tries.
I guess it does have a bit of a bias. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230301/2f264ec0a55600a5f4fe7fa744ce7a19.jpg

Here is my effort, first try. Will have to experiment some more.Pick one of these and upscale, then choose light upscale next and finally do detailed upscale. These fish will look pretty sweet I bet.

AI censorship. I wonder if it could do an alien maser that transmits to a flying saucer fleet. The maser looks like a wedding cake.

Did Home Depot put plumbers, roofers, etc out of business? Nope. Same with the AI stuff. Will so business owners navigate AI to build their stuff? Sure. Most don't have time or skill set to interest in becoming a graphic designer.
When you hire a pro you're not hiring them for the tools they use, but rather the skills and experience the bring to the project.

I get your point, but confused by your analogy. People don't need a skill set to do this.
HD doesn't actually perform any work, contractors do, so how could HD put them out of work?
Sure, HD allows individuals to buy stuff to install themselves bypassing contractors, but the individual still needs some sort of tools and hands-on skill to do it. The skill and expenses of tools limit which people are going to DIY.
In this case, the individual needs ZERO skill and ZERO high priced graphics software or media (tools) to make graphics at a level they otherwise couldn't make. They don't even need a computer, they can do it from their phone. They need literally nothing else but an imagination.
It will most certainly capture a lot of business that would have otherwise gone to professional designers. There is no doubt some pros will be using it too.

Not sure how MTG (Marjorie Taylor Green, of Georgia) got into that rendering. Guessing she was either associated with the Neanderthal or a selfie. Not sure the cave links to her.

It is her wildest fantasy.
I've noticed it's frequently giving people or animals incorrect numbers of toes/fingers. That bear looks like it might have a lot of extra toes but it's kind of hard to tell. One picture I did earlier this week, the man had 6 fingers for certain.

Clearly photoshopped in.
