A House Republican has introduced a bill that would make the AR-15... the "National Gun of the United States" ...
The AR? I don't agree with that.
If there is any gun that represents the U.S., it is the 1911.

Considering there's probably more AR's than 1911, in use. OR the safe. It makes sense.
I think any effort put into this is a waste of tax dollars and is just more unnecessary culture-war drama.
Having said that, I would nominate either the Winchester Model 1894 or 1911. Both come from a time of hands-on craftsmanship and predate plastic molded parts.
Yes. Let?s propose virtue signaling laws now that republicans can?t pass jack. Golf clap.

I concur with the opinion that this is nothing more than GOP virtue signaling.

I agree it is political posturing but it is less virtue signaling and more of an attempt to get under the skin of leftists.
I also agree it is a waste of time and energy that could be better devoted to real issues.
One of the co-sponsors is Lauren Boebert. She barely won her seat in '22. This nonsense will do nothing but incite the opposition in '24.
I was hoping to generate a discussion on the most iconic firearm in American history, not another political debate. There have been way too many of them lately.
Let's have fun and talk about guns.

And the AR15 didn't even win two World Wars...

One of the most famous handguns of all time is the Colt Single Action Army revolver.
Also known as the Peacemaker, Frontier Six-Shooter and the M1873, the Single Action Army is also a staple of Hollywood films, appearing in virtually every cowboy and western film ever made.
The revolver was was used by soldiers and civilians alike, and is still in production more than 140 years after it entered U.S. Army service.
It was said by a former train robber that a Colt forty-five makes all men equal

I stopped reading the article at the MAGA point. I didn't feel like being further irritated.

I wondered if anyone would read the linked article. Leftist drivel.

Mmmm. Let me propose another possibility behind this:
Suppose the sponsor of this acknowledges the fact that the MSR (AR15) is the most popular rifle/firearm in use TODAY (sure, there have been several other firearms that have earned their place in history, but not necessarily in popular use today - at least not at the AR15 level). Let's continue to suppose that this sponsor is well aware of the attacks against and proposals to ban the MSR so by having it officially recognized as the "National Gun of the United States", it may be a way to prevent citizens from being prohibited from owning/possessing MSR's.
Just a consideration for what may be behind this effort.

I always think of being the last man on earth. I am alone. The coyotes and wolves have survived and multiplied. They are hungry. 6 wolves have boxed me in a canyon. I have a MSR and a 30 round magazine. I survive this situation because I have a weapon of this capability. North America can be a brutal place. Just sayin'...

That’s a gorgeous 1911! Just like JMB designed!

Thanks! It's a Colt 01911 WWI Repro in Carbonia Blue finish. It was a limited production run of 4500 made approx 15 years ago? A quite accurate repro of the originals. It's a purty sumbitch, I just kinda stumbled onto it for $900, probably worth 3x that now.
Colt also made a much larger run of them in the "Black Army" finish, but these blue ones are hard to find.
I used to have a Colt WWII M1911A1 Repro also, but I traded it to a member here for a really sweet M1903A3 rifle.

AR15 is clearly the most popular rifle in America, at least over the past 20+ years.
Yet it is the rifle politicians most want banned.
Cool Bill... unfortunately, doubt it will pass.

From your mouth to the Speaker of the House's ears.
I guess it does not occur to politicians to enforce the laws already on the books.
But, as I have heard frequently over the years
No man nor his dog is safe when the legislature is in session.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Gatling.
