View Full Version : DRONE SHOT DOWN BT RUSSIA OVER INTERNATIONAL WATERS

MQ-9 UAV was shot down by a Russian SU27 fighter jet recently. It was flying over international waters. It is unwise to attack a drone as it can be armed with air to air missiles. Apparenty a Russian fighter jet sprayed the MQ-9 with fuel and when that didn't stop it, they fired a cannon into the propeller. The MQ-9 crashed into the Black Sea.
I won't be surprised if Moscow tries to attack a NATO country next. It would be a shame if the Kremlin was demolished.

We are at war.

Without a man in charge to check foreign aggression our adversaries will continue to poke us in the chest.

Maybe the russians went inverted and tried to take a polaroid, but it didn't work out?

Can you fly a jet, drink vodka, and still have a free hand to operate a camera?

Dude... The US foreign policy types have openly stated that we are assisting the Ukrainians with planning, targeting, and of course supply. You really think *they* are poking *us*?

The Black Sea borders Russia. It's 6000 miles from the US. A very simple "shoe on the other foot" test lends a lot of clarity to these things.

Just curious-what’s the source for staying it was shot down? Thanks.

I figure the authorities are glossing over the truth as usual. Banging aircraft against each other is very dangerous. I highly doubt a Russian pilot would collide with a US drone to bring it down. They have a gun on a SU-27.

"The aircraft is equipped with a 30mm GSh-301 gun with 150 rounds of ammunition and a range of missiles, rockets and bombs mounted externally on ten hardpoints."

Interesting video of that SU-27 dumping fuel on the drone. Ballsy pilots, if it's real.

The Russian was trying to spray the drone with fuel and bumped the Reaper's prop.

Did the Russian dipshits really think there wouldn't be footage of it?

"We didn't dump fuel or hit it, that's american crazy talk!"

Uh, yeah ya did Russia. It's a freaking recon drone. Its entire job is to gather pictures.

Running spy drones that feed directly to the Ukrainians is pushing the edge on that war stuff.

This is probably a stupid question, but what's the point of dumping fuel on the drone? Hoping it might catch fire? And has this tactic been used before?

wouldn't the fuel be vaporized instantly at that altitude and speed?

Just a guess here, but perhaps dump the fuel on the drone and in it's path, then hit the afterburners to ignite the fuel. That's all I can think of.

That is called a dump and burn. Pretty cool to see it in person.

Dumping a bunch of refined kerosene/diesel fuel/JP-4 in the intake of an engine can cause things to go haywire and it can also damage various sensors.

Dump fuel on it. Then drop a flare on it. The flare is a block of magnesium. Flare hit one propeller blade and damaged it. I was told when I worked these systems to be careful. Supervisor said the flare would completely burn through the runway. I just worked the avionics, munitions troops handled the flares, bombs, etc.

I think I remember seeing some video of the Aussies doing that in the F-111 during an air show. Pretty awesome!

The test pilots for the f22 used to shoot flares at each other during their mock dog fights. It worked for about 6 months until someone started noticing burn marks. There was no specific protocol against it at the time. Now there is.

Geesh. The pilot(s) downed 1 whole UNMANNED drone with their top of the line aircraft and pilots. They've really set the bar LOW.

Russia has the backing of China.

They are absolutely poking their finger in Biden's chest, saying, "Oh yeah, whatcha gonna do about it".

Rather they were following orders or not, you have to admit, that was an impressive thing to attempt!

Say what you will, but I'm guessing a balloon is harder to shoot down than a large UAV.
