So, I have some animal shitting on my back porch.
I have tried the ultrasonic pest control route, but to no avail.
Could be cats, could be foxes...
I need a recommendation for an inexpensive (under $50) outdoor camera.
Ideally solar powered, wireless.
Plenty of options on Walmart.com and Ebay, but they all seem to have "Human detection".Does that mean that anything smaller than a person would not activate it?
Trying to figure out WTH is stalking through my backyard.
If it is a fox I may be able to get animal control involved.
This is what I was able to find on Walmart.com:

human detection generally is used to avoid having larger objects (cars) not activate the camera. If you turn that setting off, a smaller creature should activate the camera
I thought someone was crapping in my backyard. Turns out it was raccoons.
I?m putting $1 on it being raccoons. Let me know if I?m wrong and I?ll pay up.

This is a bit more than $50 but you can watch the video live or recorded using the Reolink app on your phone.
It will send you notifications on motion events if you want.
It records to a micro SD card.
The internal battery is charged by the solar panel that you can mount up to about 10 feet away from the camera

I have three of an older model of this, they work great.
I rarely use my Browning Trail Cameras any more.
One of them has been mounted 15 feet up on a power pole for 2 years.

Sometimes you stop this by peeing in the area. Most animals don't like the scent of human urine.
Picture of the so called crap?

I will post it soon (remember you actually ask for it).
There seem to be two different kinds, one probably a cat, the other one definitely larger.
I may try the mark the territory idea...

I am a strong proponent of the "mark your territory" concept. Of course, that is a bit easier to do here in the hills than in town.

It was a big fat turd, but not THAT fat! [Puke]
I have dozens of trail cam photos of coyote, fox, raccoon, bear, moose and deer crapping in the yard. Which do you want to see?
How about you post a good pic of the offending scat and I'll tell you what it is. Scatologist by profession, you know.
And, skip the cheap junk trail cams. A waste of money. Go Browning or go home. I like black spec ops models.

Ok, I got video.
It's a fox.
How do I get rid of it (legally)?

Yeah I've had various versions of the Reolinks for years, they work great.

Is the fox causing actual problems, or just crapping on the deck? I'd rather have the fox in the neighborhood than rodents. YMMV, but I've never found my neighborhood foxes to cause many actual issues.

Another thing they don't like is mothballs. Put a bag of mothballs near there scat. I had a rabbit chew the wires on my truck. I put mothballs out. Coyotes were doing kills near the house and screaming about it, so I started peeing outside at night. You have to realize a fox is just another dog and has a keen sense of smell.

For sure. If we didn't have dogs I'd love to have a fox in my yard. Eat up the mice and rats that are attracted to it because our backyard neighbor insists on feeding every bird in the Western Hemisphere. [Rant1]
Live trap it and bring it to me.
He can hang out at my place and run off the rabbits, raccoons, and skunks.

Can a fox win a fight with a racoon?
The fox I have seen aren't much larger than my Beagle. Hunter don't use Beagles as coonhounds since the masked bandits are so mean.

I have not found that to be true at all. I have peed in scrapes, on coyote poop, wallows and cameras show NO difference. In fact sometimes the cameras seem to get more pictures, of coyotes in particular. And a damn coon ain?t going to change it?s habits because human pee in the area. They will just pee and shit on top of it, to show dominance. Trail cam, with a trap baited with marshmallows should help the op out.
