Every time I drive through Pueblo on I-25 and go right past the old Colorado Fuel & Iron plant, it seems like there are a few cars in the parking lot but I don't see any smoke coming from the stacks. The signs say "EVRAZ" but I don't see much activity going on there.
So is the steel mill operating or not? If not, what goes on there? I figured someone here must know.

Yes. We are going down this month for a yearly audit of thier rebar program to comply with AASHTO reinforcing bar standards.
They have 36 job openings in Pueblo, so they must be doing something.

They are owned by a Russian based company founded by Alexander Abramov who stepped down form the company last year after being sanctioned due to the Ukraine war. Roman Abramovich owns 29% of the shares of the company and the UK halted trading of it's stock on the London Stock Exchange. I thought I recently read that Evraz was looking to sell off it's North American holdings.
Despite all of that from the looks of it as you drive by they are doing a significant expansion. They are putting up several buildings and have a ton of cranes on site.

They have 750,000 solar panels to make electricity. I figured they would build their own high speed rail system along the front range. Some huge infrastructure changes going on around here. Lots of big electric transmission work going on. There was some talk at a board meeting about the groundwater being contaminated with radionuclides, making it unusable. I think the water is contaminated with lithium too. Mine the brine.
