View Full Version : Pistol Brace Registrations?

Is this the right place for this? I really thought that the courts would have done something on this, but it looks like it won?t happen in time. While the whole NFA should go away, in the meantime I was wondering about the brace registrations. When first announced, I know there was a lot of issues and concerns, but in the most recent stuff online, I don?t see those concerns as much??? What are people thinking of on this now? If I?m going to SBR them anyways?

I have a HK SP5 that if I can SBR for free and not have to put an engraving on it, that might be a win? Plus I?ve wanted to stay off the NFA registry, but if I?m on it, and I can ?save? on some SBRs, I might as well get a few suppressors while I?m at it.

I was watching the Washington Law video on the process. It seems the major issue is getting finger prints done? What?s the best way to do that in Denver?

Tagging in on this thread. I got my eform going but the fingerprints still need to be sorted out. The deadline is fast approaching.

I said this elsewhere on the forum but I have too much invested in multiple pistol uppers and a suppressor on the way. I'm already in the system so that's no excuse.

I'm already on the NFA list, so figured I might as well add a couple SBRs for free. If they turn around and make SBRs illegal and confiscate in the future, it's only a couple. Plenty of other ARs in the safe that aren't NFA still. In the meantime, I'll be able to have real SBR fun.

Silencer Shop makes it easy.

So I see that they have kiosks around Denver, is that what you are referring to?

So I see that they have kiosks around Denver, is that what you are referring to?Yes, you just use those to do your prints. Everything else is done on their website and the ATF website via the silencer shop portal. They charge $50 for the Form 1 service.

PS - some local shops may charge a fee to use the kiosks since you're not actually buying anything from them when you do a Silencer Shop Form 1.

I may be wrong, but if I understand correctly spouse/ family members cannot have access to the items.
If your spouse knows where the keys of the safe are, she (and you) may get in trouble (unless of course it is on a trust and she is a trustee, but said trust would have to be per-existent to the publication date of this bullshit).
Also cannot use NFA items without you being present.
Of course you can always move the items to a new trust, but then you have pay the tax stamp(s) anyway, so not really a free deal...

Having seen some failings with Silencershop's customer service lately, I would just go get your eft file from the ups store (printscan) and submit the efile yourself.

This is absolutely an issue everyone needs to consider before doing this. And what happens to the SBRs when you die.

I'll keep my SBRs in a safe with digital fingerprint lock and not add my wife's prints. If anyone comes with a warrant and wants to see if she has access? Nope, her prints won't work. No way to prove if she knows the combo or not.

The rest can stay in all access safes. ;)

My understanding they were going to do a cut off at some time (before ATFs last day) and not process them anymore, so double check. If you get finger print scans by Silencer Shop they charge $40 to hard copy prints and they are slow to mail.

Best bet is to find an FFL that deals with NFA stuff, lot of them will help you get prints for a fee.

Yup. You can just upload the file directly on the eforms site. A friend did it and had his file before he made it back to the car. Bonus is that you don't have to order, pay, and wait for SS for paper cards.

That is actually pretty cool, I will have to bookmark that.

When did ATF start accepting digital fingerprints for efile form 1 applications?

Once they get all of the wrinkles worked out, it will be easier when all semi-autos get added to the registry.

A few months ago.
If you already have print cards on hand, there are places that will convert them. I believe Capitol Armory does

So my imagination is going. I die, the atf comes to my house to pick up my nfa item. My wife can’t open the safe they throw her in the back of the car and hall her away because she is an accomplice. They cut the safe open destroying all contents. Media reports that I’m was a terrible person because I had 500 rounds of ammo (brick of 22lr).
Or maybe change the buffer tube. $20 at midway USA

Yup, that's what I did.
I am just not going there.
It doesn't look as "cool", but still very much shootable.

Silencer Shop makes it easy.

Using the Silencer Shop kiosk for prints (mainly an issue with the wife's scans) and the whole process was a royal PITA for me. In the end, I should have just paid the $65/person to have printscan done and had the eft file.

SS was a pain to work with their "approval" process. Taking over a week for them to put eyes on my forms, they pushed back with the "not notarized schedule A," I had to push back for them to submit anyway. That serial has been on my Sch A since like 2014 and been listed there for more than 7 approvals.

I think they cut off on the 16th? if they haven't already. May 31 was the filing deadline.

hollohas

Yup. May 16th cutoff for silencer shop.

All my stuff was approved and fully submitted within 2 days of completing my prints on the kiosk this month, including the eforms.

Did I miss something? Is there something that exempts the maker from having to engrave their information on the gun?

I just realized I "already" have an EFT file for my fingerprints for the last CAN I bought from Trigger time. They sent me the file to have on hand.

Thanks. I completely missed that.

Yea, and I was gonna F1 my one pistol lower anyway and already had it engraved over at ECCO when he converted my cans.

Also engraved my non SBR Noveske N4 Recce factory rifle.

That said, my original intent was to SBR the Noveske to stop the pin weld BS (14.5" barrel) so I added it to the trust but then decided it's the gun I prefer to take out of state and didn't' want to hassle with paper on it yearly.

Convenient that they were both in the trust prior to the pistol BS (the pistol since 2014 actually) and/or potential AR bans coming soon to a Colorado near you.

So I caved in and submitted my two forms to Silencer Shop.
Knock on wood...
Now, in for a penny, in for a pound, I want to turn my Tac 14 into an SBS.
I understand it will not fall into the amnesty deal.
I believe I can still do it through Silencer Shop.
I will however have to engrave it, I believe.
What is the cost and who is the go-to guy?
Do I engrave before or after the Form 1 approval?
Kind of new to this, so bear with me...

Why would you it fall under the amnesty period it?s before 5/31? Unless I missed something

According to ATF Brace FAQ, the free tax stamp is not available for Short Barrel Shotguns.

Probably a little cheaper just to use printscan and head to the ups store to redo.

Well I went the Silencer Shop route and stopped by Murdoch's in Castle Rock to use their kiosk. It went fine I guess. Can't say I'm too thrilled about any of this but at least it was easy.

Went to UPS. Had some issues, especially with the rolls until I figured out that I was breaking contact with the Touch Bar on the frame and making incomplete scans. That and it seems like you need slinky wrists to get all the roll done.

Got confirmation that they had them (printscan?) by the time i left the UPS store, and the encrypted file to submit by the time I got home.

In case anyone was tracking, or submitted a pistol lower for "free" SBR, I just got my form4, submitted 4/12/2023 back approved today.

Curiously, I thought a few weeks ago to login to e-forms to see if the submission was still even out there or had been kicked back to draft or anything as it had been so long, but the site was down for maintenance when I tried to login to check and then just kind of blew it off.

That's 960 days for anyone counting.

ROFL.
