View Full Version : San Francisco Reparations Plan
Slavery Reparations presented by the City are estimated to be about 5 million per "eligible" citizen (lump sum). It includes a guaranteed income of $97,000. per year and a $1.00 home!
Beyond any Racial questions about the plan, I wonder if the people pushing this have any idea of the cost.
Estimated cost (and it will go up) is $800 million, San Francisco has an annual budget of $300 million.
Some put the cost at $600,000 per non-black citizen. The city will go broke.
San Francisco was great place 20 years ago, now its an expensive crap-hole run by loonies. Kind of like Denver!
Just my opinion.

...I wonder if the people pushing this have any idea of the cost.
Hahaha! Since when has any modern politician considered the cost of any plan they put forward?
This has been in the news for a while and as it has gained a bit of steam, even Gavin Newsom has tried to distance himself from it, without outright saying it is bonkers.
[That's $800 Billion, not million!!]
Eh,... what's a few more zeros?
What has been the cost of all the welfare programs? Surely more than the reparation bribes for votes program.
If the think they would of been better off if thier ancestors were left in Africa, they should migrate back to the home land.

Fuzzy math. In the article, they estimate 50,000 black folk in the city at $5 mil each equals $250,000,000,000.00 or $250 billion. Given the last census showed a population of 815,000 residents and the SF city annual budget as $14 billion, I'd say they would have difficulty in obtaining the revenue without increasing taxes, which will drive people out. Even the annual salary of $97,000 as listed to each black person is $4,850,000,000 or $4.85 billion annually. Not sustainable.
Not sustainable.
Since when did math stop any democrat from virtue signaling?

I'd like to see how they will determine what makes you an 'Eligible' person and how much the rules will be bent when angry mobs start raising hell.
San Francisco has a huge surplus of office space and people are leaving the city due to high costs of living and stupid high taxes. The math just doesn't work out.

Based on the numbers I have seen, they are estimating 35k people would be eligible for this.
San Frans budget is ~$15 billion annually. Just the $5mil payout is 10x their annual budget.
We are all going to end up footing the bill for this nonsense. San Fran, hell even Cali, can't pay for this... They'll go beg uncle joey for help, and he'll give it. Hence we all pay for this shit...
It won't stop there either.
RI is planning on reparations of some sort
Memphis.
CA State - $360k per black resident
LA
Boston
Berkley
St Louis
And More...
It's all going to end up being paid, or more actually bailed out, by the Feds.

Current estimates that I have seen suggest a $300mil deficit for San Fran this year, and projected at $1.2B in the next 3-5 years.
How the hell can they decide eligibility when a person can identify as whatever the hell they want?
Lots of people will make lots of claims for $30mil apiece...
$5mil payout
$97k annually for 250 years - $24.25mil
$1 House - Basic housing in SF is easily $1mil

You left Denver off the list. Candi Cdbaca has already made noise about it.
Hell, I think I've got some Irish DNA and they have a long history of being enslaved, where's my check?

You are spot on Ron, those English bastards have been battling and persecuting my French ancestors back to the 17th century. I think I am entitled to receive something because of that!!

WHAT!!!
You're nuts if you think anyone of the Anglo Saxon diaspora owes the French anything! We haven't forgotten Hastings. Time for France to to cut those checks!
And we haven't forgotten that Norway was in on it to, so you better pay up as well.
My ancestors lost a small hillfort and 3 cows which comes to $15,247,143.54 including interest. Paypal or Venmo is fine.

Well, I guess the French might have an argument that they helped out in the Revolutionary War and you are living in America now.
But, then again, the US might have helped them out in WWI and WWII
And, the beat goes on.........

I think we can all agree that the period of slavery in what is now the United States (trying to include the pre-Revolutionary War period of slavery in what has become the U.S.) was egregious and we wish it'd never happened.
Slavery anywhere, at any time, including the slavery still going on today (usually in the form of sex trafficked slaves), is reprehensible and one of the worse things a person can do to another person.
Thing is, at some point in time, just about every group of individuals, every culture, and every nation had people enslaved. Not just black or Asian or Hispanic/Latina, but every race on this planet was enslaved at some point in time. Every single one of us has an ancestor somewhere in our lines that was a slave.
The question begging to be asked is just how far back do you go to hold people today accountable for the actions of those before us?
The Oxford Languages dictionary defines "reparations" as "the making of amends for a wrong one has done, by paying money to or otherwise helping those who have been wronged." This idea of paying reparations by people who did no wrong in this regard and their parents and grandparents who did no wrong in this regard to individuals who did not directly have any wrong done to them, their parents or their grandparents is absolutely insane.
It's a generally accepted belief that the last slave in the United States was freed on June 19, 1865 (which is where "Juneteenth" comes from). That was just days short of 158 years ago from today.
This is nothing more than someone claiming their circumstances today are the result of actions from over a century and a half ago. This push could only gain traction in today's environment where personal accountability, taking responsibility for ones own circumstances, is no longer valued. Realistic or not, we get to blame anyone and everyone else for our circumstances and they can be made to pay a price for it.
Look, I get that everyone wants something for nothing, but how can any sane society consider entertaining this sort of nonsense? I guess the question sort of answers itself: We no longer live in a sane society.
Mankind is truly doomed.

I fully support direct and high-value cash payments to any individual who was personally enslaved in the United States prior to the end of the Civil War.

100% spot on- That fact that this is seriously being discussed in various levels of local, state and national government, and not just in some progressive fringe echo-chamber, is complete idiocy.
It's all about getting more people to vote for the D ticket, because they be fo' de peoples, ya know.....
My family financed much of the War of 1812 for the US government. And the USA never paid it back.
I want the money with a nominal historical interest rate of say 7% annual.
Pay up people! We saved you a$$es.
Conservatively I am owed $213B.
Oh. And since as Governor of NY which outlawed slavery, my family is owed for that too. We need reparations for setting slaves free. African Americans should be paying me!

They always talk about these reparations like they are going to be direct payments. But the reality is that if it happens it will just be money that goes to advocacy groups for the benefit of these people, and all teh reach hucksters and NGOs will spend the money on staff and outreach.
Ever see the Sountern Poverty Law Center? There sure is a lot of money in the poverty business….
